Advice needed!

So I found a GT spec diesel 54000 miles from a local used car dealer. (2011)

I took it for a test drive and fell in love car drove perfectly. No faults logged during test drive.

Perfect I thought. Got the car MOT as agreed by the dealer. Not worth the paper written on but there we go.

I plan to have the car checked over by mate who owns a garage once I have the car.

On way to pick up the car they call to
Say there is a fault code come up.
They've supplied be a courtesy car which is brilliant until fixed.
The fault was with the EGR etc. They are replacing all new parts and supplying receipts too.
I like my vehicle history.
Am I mad to still take delivery of the RCZ :-( I'm torn and need the advice

Tough call, once you have fallen for a car it's difficult to see exactly what's the right thing to do.

It's easier for me to say walk away & find another, but there are a lot of RCZ's on the market at the moment, particularly diesels, so if that's what you want, you should be able to find another that doesn't have fault codes hanging over them.

The other way to look at it is that if the garage are doing the right thing, and they are using the right parts, this might not be a bad purchase after all.

My gut feeling would be to find another, but ultimately it has to be your decision.

Cheers for you thoughts.
I suppose any car could have the issues at any time. Least they are happening now. Have two weeks to decide when I finally get delivery aswell

In the meantime, just keep looking to see if you can find another that ticks all the boxes. If not, you can make the decision when this one is ready.

The EGR is a simple fix, the diesel is usually bulletproof.

The EGR is something that will clog up if not "cleaned out" as soot will accumulate on any wet substance.

The way to clean the EGR is to have 'spirited runs' to enable the valve to open and move the accumulated soot away from the EGR valve.

Same with the DPF!

I've got the diesel, had it from new since 2013.
Mainly plod along at 60mph but for at least 2 hours so the engine gets upto temperature where the EGR and DPF can do their job.

Tianorth is right, the EGR valve is an easy fix and description spot on. Had trouble with an EGR on my 307 cc 2.0hdi.

The other way of looking at it is... well it's gone wrong now, been repaired / replaced, thus should be good to go for another xx thousand miles.

If you really want it make sure that they give you a warranty or cast iron guarantee to honor the repair work carried out incase it is a reoccurring fault.

I've had plenty of cars and sold them to buy other cars, then gone back to the same model, and you never seem to get one better than the one you originally had which you got rid of for this or that reason.

You could just as well get a car then get a fault later, just look of the draw sometimes.

Do what's right for you and enjoy it.

I would buy it, who say that when you find another diesel to EGR will not brake in the future.

Now they will fix it so you will not have any problems with the EGR any time soon.
