About to buy : Advise HDI or not

Hello all,
I am about to buy an RCZ. I am really, really torn...

I do 700Km per week, mostly motorway (actually autobahn - Switzerland and Germany) driving. So the HDI makes sense.

I need the car next week (because my old car is broken and must go), and I have to buy in Switzerland because that's where I live (no time to organise import)...
So I have a great spec'd 2012 HDI model available (39K Km on the clock), but no post facelift 2013 models available right now.

But emotionally I would love to get a beautiful 2014 RCZ R petrol (15K Km) - that's what my heart says. I have never driven either. Naturally fuel cost will be higher, an extra 1000euros per year I reckon (buying fuel in Austria where its cheaper on boarder crossing).

So does anybody have any thoughts... Is the road comfort much better in the HDI, lower RPMs etc for my motorway?

What about the differences between pre and post 2013 models? Do people generally prefer post 2013 and why?

Many thanks for any tips, discussion... :)

Hello and welcome,
If your heart is set on a R why have second best ?
Are there no R's for sale in Germany it's only a short drive away, can you not just drive it back and re reg it.

Haha. thanks. The R does look wonderful...
8K CHF more expensive though (29,900 CHF for 15K Km 04.2014 compared to 21,900 for 39K Km 04.2012)... emmmm

But hey perhaps I just take her for the summer and swap to a sensible Diesel later if I can separate myself. lets see :)

Actually I just heard the HDI might have been sold... know more on Monday. So I lets let fate decide.
If the HDI is still there I might snap it, if not I get myself the R.

The sensible option would be to buy the diesel (mpg etc) but the heart says go for the R. I had the HDi for 2 years and it was faultless but I reverted to a 208 GTi for sheer refinement!

It's true, you will love the car whichever you get.

TiaNorth has both HDI & R and he still goes to meets in his HDI for economy reasons, (yes the greedy s*d has TWO RCZ's)

So it's pretty clear that the HDI is a magnificent car to have. You will not regret your decision so long as it says RCZ on the sexy derrière.

Hello all, thanks for you answers and help.

The diesel is gone... The cheaper R has also gone, but there is a slightly more expensive R still available... grrrrrr.

There are loads of 200PS petrols available, particularly this one which puzzles me a bit...

The advertisement says its a Asphalt, but it does not have a matte grey or black colour. It has only part leather and part cloth seats, but otherwise it has all the extras that an Asphalt would have... 19" wheels, JBL hifi, Xenon, etc, etc...

Please take a look at the pics: What do you think? Also it worries me that the oil indicator seems to be on in one of the pictures... Any advise greatly appreciated

Hi and Welcome,
As with any car, if you have doubts walk away.
I do not have the knowledge with regard European spec cars, they are often different to UK specs. My understanding is the Black Asphalts were Diesels, I could be wrong. Good luck with your search.

Hi RCZash, thanks for the photos and advise. Your Asphalt looks really great.
I am going to take a look at the car tomorrow, so I'll see, but I am sure its not the same as your model; certainly inferior. So I'll try and find out why its advertised as an asphalt.
Cheers

So the advertised Asphalt turned out to be an Onyx model, and as I got a good deal, I bought it.

I love it... so much fun to drive.

Of course the R would have been amazing but it was nearly twice the price, and with my KM per year I decided to go with this option.

Thanks all for your help
