So the other afternoon I got to work, looked to my side and realised I had left my pass at home. Fortunately my manager let me go home and get it. So I razzed there and back and round one little corner when I was in 2nd gear I heard a metallic rattle rattle. I didn't think anything of it until this evening when I was overtaking someone in a 50 zone and as I went through 50 and a few more the engine juddered and I lost power temporarily, it happened again when I accelerated through 60 later on in the journey.

It looks like my day off tomorrow will now be spent limping the poor car to the garage to have the fuel pump checked over as the same thing happened to me 18 months ago which meant to be without my RCZ for a few days. I just hope she starts behaving herself as she is already booked in for a detail in January, I'd hate to have to switch her before then ;-)

Me too!!! And I can only blame myself which makes it all the more infuriating ;-) I'm sure either of my two local garages will be able to see her tomorrow and sort me out with some sort of alternative transport for the weekend. At least she didn't break down on the way to the airport to catch a flight this time…

The rattle rattle you are talking about could very likely be timing pull to prevent knock (its like a metally rattly sound coming from the engine). You can read a thousands threads on here that discuss this. Its got to do with everything surrounding the ignotion and timing systems of the engine i.e. plugs, timing chain, coils, fuel, injectors etc etc.

Keep us posted anyways :)

Quite possibly, but when this happened 18 months ago this was the exact sequence of occurrences and the car went into limp mode when I was coming home from work at 11pm and cut out completely when I tried to get to a dealership the next morning!!

Either way, it seems like it will now be a while until I find out at five different dealers within a 30 min drive from me can't see the car today. As I am away from Mon-Thurs (flying fortunately) it seems my best bet is a week away. Unimpressed doesn't even come close…
