2011 200THP 90,000 miles. I have a feeling that the turbo isn't providing full boost, so today I removed and checked the recirculation valve. It appears to be fine, but the spring seemed rather weak. My initial suspicions are that the spring has weakened over the years and it could be opening ever so slightly and allowing pressure to escape. I have no point of reference whether or not the spring is normal or has lost strength over the years. As mine appears to be the original, I have ordered a new one, since they aren't that expensive and only take a few minutes to change. I am aware that they fail over time, but that it is usually the rubber membrane that goes and mine seemed fine. I guess my question is, are the springs relatively weak, or should they be quite stiff? After I rebuilt it again, I went for a test drive and at one point it felt as though the turbo was giving about 1 second bursts (poooower, not so much, poooower, not so much) under acceleration.

I didn't feel any noticeable difference but since my RCZ was remapped, I wanted to have a better DV :)

The price was about 300 Eur. After remap my RCZ had 171kW (~230HP) / 340 Nm. It was done by a specialist on a rolling road. The difference was very noticeable. A few months ago my remapped RCZ was wrecked 😓 Now I have another stock THP200 RCZ and it feels sluggish compared to my old one... I'm considering doing remap again for my current RCZ.

Well, if replacing my diverter valve does indeed restore the power that I believe is lacking, then I definitely need to find somewhere that can do this for mine as well. Thank you for your time and helpful advice.

I looked at these & did some digging & what I read about issues with the valve sticking through lack of oil saved me the cost of buying one ?

That is indeed very interesting. I have ordered a new one already as I think that the old one is the original and is probably on its last legs. But it is certainly something worth noting for the future, thank you.

I’ve not read any real negative reviews where did you see these?

A guy on you tube took his out & the cylinder sides was chaffed through no Lube but other posters on there have removed them for different reasons one guy who fitted it to a mapped Golf removed it because he couldn't recognise any difference after running with it over a short period so my advice to anyone wanting more boost is stick a bigger turbo/intercooler in then see the difference

Hi there. A THP engine with that sort of milage will probably have a fair amount of inlet valve oil/fuel debris built up. You may want to look into walnut blasting the intake valves, its a fairly common issue.

I just removed mine again and opened it up and there is no oil in it, although I don't think that it should have. There is a certain amount of aluminium dust though so there has definitely been some chaffing going on in there. If the new one doesn't arrive today, I might just try some silicone spray and put it back in.

I assume this involves removal of the head?

No they take off the inlet manifold to access the valve chambers so not as complicated as it sounds but it is recommended on the Prince direct injection engines to walnut blast "decoke the head" at around 60.000 Klm

I will make inquiries. I have also heard about a process where they run the engine with a gas which is supposed to do something along those lines. I have a mate who works for Liqui Moly, he might know someone who does that.
