20" wheels and winter tyres for the RCZ

Hi

New member. Pre-facelift RCZ GT THP 156 (I'm 62 and retired so am not wealthy). Love real ale hence the beer thingy.

I've seen 20" alloys advertised for the RCZ and am thinking of buying a set. I also wanted to put winter tyres onto either the original 19" wheels or onto the 20" wheels so as to have a set of winter and summer tyres and wheels with only a wheel change required.

Has anyone fitted 20" wheels already and, if so, are there any problems and are any particular suitable 20" wheels and 19" or 20" winter tyres recommended?

ADD: I've just seen that winter tyres for the 20" rims are twice the price of those for the 19" ones and very limited in choice so I think I'll go with the gloss black Wolfrace Eurosport Assassin with Continentals for the winter. Comments on this combo and the original questions would still be appreciated though.

Welcome :greetings-wavingblue:

If I may be so cheeky as to say that your 62 year old bones are going to get a right shaking with 20" rims on :eusa-whistle:
one of the mods has 20's so he will be able to advise you. Good luck with the new car!

I have 20s on mine. No problems. I have never used winter tyres though so cant comment on that.

Hi all' :greetings-wavingblue:

...couldn't help but ask 20 inch rims and WHY ?? ,,having for many years been told that its not all about size BUT the performance ! Yeah i've said it  So i'm left with, is it a "for looks thing" as 20 inch rims surely must adversely affect the overall ride of the Z' just more so than the 19's?? This I mention having watched and viewed articles comparing the virtues of 19s' and 18's and the pro race driver fell firmly on the side of the 18's for performance handling characteristics on the cars being driven around a track. Of course I understand all cars are different but the RCZ-R makes do and puts out with 19's. I guess theres a reason why F1 cars are not fitted with massive tractor tyres !!

I wholeheartedly believe in individuality and doing things to vehicles that promote that whether it be for cosmetics or performance and fitting 20's just kinda caught my attention in a nice way.

.the big blue (...quietly sat on the Forum back benches reminiscing over the F1 Elf Tyrell with its twin axle. just a thought) :eusa-think:

I thought that they'd look better with less empty space in the wheel arches above them but concluded that it's not worth it when you have to pay lots more for the tyres!

 I forgot to mention, in relation to the "old bones" comment that, being a 2-door with longer doors, the RCZ is unexpectedly considerably more difficult to get out of once it's in the garage than the Peugeot 607 I had last, even though the was much bigger. Being as stiff as a board, even when young, doesn't help at al with the exit process which is like pot-holing sideways.

Also, even when folded in, those massive door mirrors leave only around a 70cm clearance on each side between them and the garage door frame. I now have to ask my wife to guide me in (to the garage that is) every time, something I never had to do with the earlier 607, 605 3-litre and the Talbot Tagora V6 (an updated 604) (no scrapes over a period of 30 years).

Hi Dave :greetings-wavingblue:

..getting in and out of the car OR garage falls into insignificance once your in and driving your Z' I'm sure ,,and as long as the latter leaves you feeling both good about the car AND yourself that is what matters most and not the size ,,of your RIMS!

Heres hoping that your finding cruising the Forum a good experience and you're happily soaking up the enthusiasts knowledge and experience its brimming with ......Welcome & ENJOY

.the big blue (..with a 19 inch shod GT but preferring the cost of 18 inch tyres of course!!!!!)

Not sure what sizes they do for RCZ but I put Conti Winter ("contact"?) tyres when the weather turns, on our Skoda and they are A-MAZE-ING!

Have you tried - http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/ (excellent prices)
