2.0 diesel

Hi got this error message, I do a lot of short miles, to and from work is only 2 miles. Heard it needs a good run has anyone else had this error? I only bought the car a month ago but it's a 2012 model and I got a years warranty from the garage.

If you do a search you will find this issue has occurred quite often on these pages. It is undoubtedly the short journeys that cause this problem. Search for DPF or Diesel Particulate Filter, and you will come across causes & solutions.

If you have no choice about doing the short journeys, you should try to give the car a longer faster run as often as possible to help clear the dpf.

This is the kind of thing that is not really covered by warranties, but as you have only recently purchased the car, you might have a chance with the dealership that sold you the car. I wouldn't be too eager to tell them about your consistent short journey usage though. Better to go with the, This must have been a problem when I bought it, attitude.

Give it a good run on motorway, keep reeves up, and you should find it will be ok then

You need to be above 40 mph for more than 20 minutes.

The more often you do this the less likely you are to see the message.

2 miles to work, walk it, better for you and your car

Tony, I used to cycle to work and back but I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to bad weather especially the winter plus I need a car for when I play footy on a weekend away games.. Plus this car is better to look at than a bike.
