Ah about a month ago the engine management light came on - took it in but they found nothing? strange then 2 days ago same again and the led light adv get this checked, took it in yesterday and they tell me its the timing belt but that they dont generally have a problem with this?

im wondering if they do, when they had it in a month ago - i had it serviced at the same time, one would think they would check this but the mechanic says not so!

wonder if anyone else had a problem????

Re: TIMING BELT

It would be very difficult for a petrol engine RCZ to have an issue with the timing belt, it doesn't have one....it's got a metal timing chain.......

That is what I meant, the chain has stretched! Worried that it was going to be a long term problem!

Re: TIMING BELT

My belt tensioner nearly bent all the pistons and would of totalled the engine

You haven't got a belt tensioner as you haven't got a belt......you cant bend a piston but you can bend a valve , this would only be possible if the valves collidided with the pistons , timing chains can stretch very slightly which is enough to cause the warning light to come on and a fault code to be stored sometimes.

RCZ petrol engines do not have a rubber timing belt like this:

RCZ petrol engines do have a metal chain like this:

Re: TIMING BELT

my RCZ is currently in the garage with exactly the same problem. i took it in last friday and it's in until next wednesday cos they didn't have all the parts and some have to come from France or wherever.

looks like a few of us with the same problem :(

Re: TIMING BELT

you cannot beat a good old timing chain running in oil, they last for ever. wouldnt have thought one would stretch at low mileage though.

Well they told me that they dont have a problem with the Timing chain at all and only very few have been brought in !

they say mine will be ready today, but i have a hire car at the present.....its not coming back until its right.

the mechanic did say they have to take out the engine but first secure the back otherwise the car will go front end up if not!!!

hope they know what they are doing.....

This doesn't sound terribly likely to my ignorant thoughts. Why would it "go front end up" in the first place? It has a wheel on each corner !!! How would securing the back help? Do they attach something to the ceiling to lift up the rear end so that the front wheels remain on the ground?
Sounds rather far-fetched to me I'm afraid

They will drop the whole front of the car off, just leaving the front bumper, wheel arches, and bonnet. Its all on a sub frame and they just drop the sub, and it all comes out in one (like it was put in) so to stop it moving around (as there is no weight now) you have to secure the back of the car.
