Hi all, I've just taken delivery of a 2011 (1.6T auto, non-satnav) which I've posted about in the 'Newbies' section however, after a few days of travelling I now have some interesting quirks show up and wondered if they are common or not.

So we took this on a 10hr round trip and two strange things occured;
  1. Going about 100kph (62mph) and the drivers side front tyre hit a bit of a pothole in the road that I didn't see (was raining at the time) and it gave a good thud. I was listening to music at the time and when I hit the pothole, the force stopped the speakers on the drivers side working (loose wiring somewhere?). Later on after stopping and driving off, the speakers were all working again.

  2. This is the more worrying issue, driving along the highway nice and easy, suddenly I get a notification that there is a problem with the charging system (can't recall exact wording, it only happened that one time).
I assume it means the alternator isn't doing its job. However, the service book came with receipts of mechanical work done and one of those was for a NEW alternator (was installed about 10,000km earlier) and on the worksheet, the problem that required the new alternator was 'alternator wasn't charging at times'.
So it seems to me that its actually an issue with wiring somewhere, and that the alternator didn't need to be replaced at all. Out of around 10hrs total driving, I only got the warning come up once though.
Hoping the RCZ guru's can shine a light on this one!

If the message was this 'Battery charge or Electrical supply faulty' then I and some others have had it too. Myself and another on here solved it by replacing the circuit board on the front of the battery protection module. It sits on top of the battery. See this thread.

Ah yes, that is exactly what the message was, couldn't remember it. Thanks, I'll chase it up

Actually, I looked it up on AliExpress but results are mixed. I've never shopped there, did your BPGA module come from overseas or was it from a local seller?

Thanks for that, found one on Fruugo. For anyone following, make sure you look around for the best price because it varies wildly. As far as I can tell, the main reason seems to depend on whether they are pitching it for the RCZ or for other vehicles that use the same module.

Even within the same site, Fruugo, I found two separate listings for the same module, one was $199 (link below) and the other was $399 (on sale from almost $800 apparently).

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! £55.82 29%OFF | Fuse Box Voltage Module Battery Sensor 28257533 28236841 For Citroen C4 Picasso Peugeot 3008 5008

Hope this helps you out
Thanks mate. I like to get an idea of prices for items because there is a lot of either counterfeit or reproductions which are low quality so a lower price isn't always the best choice but I'll check it out!

That looks exactly like the one I got on Aliexpress.
You had the same issue? I've been driving it a lot doing the usual around town, but the same warning popped up today and in similar circumstances. Side note, I've chucked in an OBD2 reader and used the Torque Pro software, no codes were detected at all.

First time, was after I'd been driving on the highway for a few hours and stopped somewhere for about an hour. After getting back on the highway, it happened maybe within half an hour.

Second time was actually today. I'd been driving on the highway for about an hour and stopped for some lunch. After starting to drive home, got the warning within half an hour again.

So a pattern seems to be emerging of this issue occuring after long drives. Thinking that the longer its driven, the more the module is affected by heat, perhaps heat soak or because its starting to fail, the prolonged use and heating up causes the faultiness to trigger.

Either way, since it's been suggested its that battery module which needs replacing, I'm definitely going to get a new one but I'm also determined to find out everything I can about the electrical system and how that module works because it seems to be one of those common problems.

You see, this is why I'm reluctant to buy anything off AliExpress, they can't even get the descriptions correct and we're supposed to trust that they can make complex electronics? Just imagine putting in a counterfeit module (its what they basically are) and then it kills your ECU.

Just check out those selling points lol

I would send you the sellers details for the one I bought but I can't find it in my order history for some reason. Anyway, my car had the same issue as you and I fixed the problem. My car also had zero fault codes.

Hey bud been a bit busy but back into it now, forgot to ask, do I just put the replacement battery module in or is there some special process involved, such as doing something with the ECU etc?

Very simple to do. I recall removing one battery terminal. A 13 mm socket will undo the bolts. It needs to be a deepish socket. Be very careful of the plastic retainer clip. I dropped mine. Luckily it landed under the car. Then undo the second part of the clip to pull it off. Do the reverse to install the new board. There's no need to do any fancy resetting the ECU or stuff like that. Last thing is reconnect the battery. Hopefull your issue is resolved!!! Let us know how you go!
