Hi, curious to hear of other people's experiences of successfully utilising this act (which I admittedly never heard of up until recently).

I understand you’re under the burden to prove that the dealership sold you the car in any unsatisfactory state, if after 6 months (I think).

What steps did one take to prove this, and what was the outcome? Or do you think small claims is a better route?

I have an RCZ that has given me problems (new driver bad luck i fear), and a mechanic mentioned CRA in passing.

How long have you had the car and what are the faults?

How old and how many miles does the RCZ have?

How did you pay for the car? If you have finance speak to them first. I always pay a deposit on a big purchase with my credit card for protection.

I've had to reject a few cars including a Jaguar F Type and a Mercedes A45AMG.

Thanks for responding.

how long have you had the car and what are the faults: around nearly 10 months, faults include:
Alternator- mechanic believes there is a broken connection. Emissions are high
Beeping sensor keeps saying my coolant is too low/engine oil pressure failure, but I checked it and it seems fine? Won't stop beeping.

Previous advisories on MOT prior to purchase were: Brake pad issues / disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened etc.

Main fixes over the past couple of months include: new battery, heater pipes.

How old and how many miles does the RCZ have? =57k, 2011 plate

How did you pay for the car? = BACs mainly, the deposit the bank forgot to chargeback in time frame for £100 deposit

Wow, for your Jag/Merc how soon after did you do that? After 30 days?

I noticed days after getting the F Type things weren't right. The Jaguar dealer took the car back for an inspection and conceded it needed too much work. No chance it passed the approved used checklist. They offered me the chance to reject, but then became difficult to get all my money back. They did pay in full after a few weeks.

The A45 was brand new. Two days, the first dry day, I noticed that the roof pillars were all distorted. Other silly things like stripping the black paint off the alloy wheels around the studs.

We never got to the bottom of what really happened to the car. The Mercedes approved body shop thinks the car had been dropped causing the deformation.

It took over 7 months and a lot of pressure to force a rejection. I got a full refund.

Pads, discs, batteries and alternators are all wear and tear.

I had issues when my alternator failed on the R. The one that Bosch said was the correct alternator was not compatible. The car worked, but the fan ran constantly and there was a fault code for the alternator, but not an EML.

I think after 10 months you're going to struggle linking back those faults. It could be something simple like a sensor, it could be a stretched timing chain. These are common problems on 13/14 year old cars.

i thought the consumer rights act was for the first 30 days after purchase, yes the burden of proof you need is to prove the dealer/trader sold you the car with the faults present unless he/she disclosed the faults at the time of sale.
if you are months into it it may make it hard to get very far I would assume.

That sounds like a right pain in the neck. Glad you got it resolved. Honestly, as a new driver, it seems like it's probably worth going on finance for my next vehicle at some point! So other drivers tell me.

I topped up fluids yesterday, and it didn't really make a difference to the sensor, the attached are the various messages it cycles through, every 8 seconds, drove me insane during the 3hr round trip I made yesterday !
