Newbie with a 2013 RCZ 1.6 GT

Hi Guys,
I'm a new RCZ owner after purchasing a 2013 1.6(156bhp) GT model with 43k miles & a FSH.. I bought it privately from a middle aged couple who had owned it for 5 years and were the 2nd owners.. I've read some horror stories about these engines but I'm hoping by buying a relatively low mileage car with a full service history ( + timing chain replacement 6k miles ago) that I'll at least have done all I can to avoid any major issues!.. You guys are the people that really know what these engines are like so would be great to hear your views/tips...I absolutely LOVE the look of it inside and out and am hoping for a (relatively) trouble free relationship!!

Hi and welcome firstly don’t get panicked by all the negativity regarding the 156 version if looked after you should hopefully be trouble free, the main thing with these engines is to keep the oil clean so regular oil and filter changes every 5K max and I would recommend only using Total ineo first 0W-30 irrespective of what it says in the manual, and check the level manually with the dipstick regularly and keep the level at max, some of these engines tend to use oil others don’t do just keep a good eye on it till you get to know it. I would also recommend you only run premium fuel they run much better on it and a remap on the 156 is a must it totally transforms the car and you’ll get better fuel economy too And then just enjoy your gorgeous car.

Hi and welcome wilie, as Neil said regarding checking and frequent oil changes is an absolute must, bought my 2011 156 last July drove home and went to check over the engine etc and to my horror only top part of dipstick there, I assumed that the car came with a full service prior to collection and 6 mths aa warranty all would be fine, anyway took car back gave them a new dipstick which I bought and bluntly said I want the car spot on because how could the car been fully serviced with dipstick broken, did the timing chain, oil cooler etc etc came back home car was drinking oil 2 litres within 2 weeks my local trusted indie mechanic instantly noticed that sump screws were loose, so me and him cleaned up sump which had black builders type silicone on and re sealed the sump fresh oil and new pipercross air filter, car is now A1 used just under a litre of oil in 4 months, I love the car it drives fantastic sorry for the long post but keep an eye for any oil leaks as well and you should be fine mate enjoy you're z
