Hi All,
I'm a newbie to this forum and I'm sure my subjecthas already been done to death, but here goes.
I have a 2014 RCZ with the 200bhp engine which is fitted with a G.Cartier PSA9646902580 - 63299058 coolant level sensor.
I have read various feeds related to problems with this sensor on other sites or the net and I am also now experiencing issues with the unit in my car. It comes on if you turn a corner or hit a bump and is intermittent. The coolant level in the bottle is fine and is always at the max level, so low level is not the issue.

I have ordered an new unit of identical make and model and will replace the current sensor, however my concern is how reliable are thes units, given the car has only done 46,000k.
Is there an alternative sensor which will do the same job or is this the only type to use for this application?
Cheers Jeff

I have used couple of non OEM sensors but those failed in few weeks. Now I just keep that sensor unplugged and check coolant level manually once a month or so

Coolant level sensor inside the expansion bottle maybe the culprit they are a well known generic failure & dead easy to remove & install a new one

I had the same issue and my Peugeot dealer adviced to unplug the sensor and wrap it with a waterproof plastic. I guess this is a permanent solution but will have to check from time to time your coolant level. I hope this help.

The dealer gave bad info saying to block it off & never unplug any sensors they are a failsafe device regarding the level sensor its put in the tank to stop the engine from overheating through loss of coolant as for cleaning I did the same but lasted a week then it failed so replaced with another Bosch as Magnasteyr says it could be the sensors eclectic circuit is open but I believe dirty coolant is the main culprit for contaminating the probes

Mines played up from day 1 i just put up with it…I’ve never known any other car with so many gremlins in warning lights
Trying to explain them to a prospective buyer is fun on a test drive…..

Not necessarily Pedro ... thankfully coolant loss in the 308 series and the RCZ is very rare .... and aside from the coolant level light, one also has the temp light, the temp warning beep and the temp gauge. So the cooling system is very well protected. Also although dirty coolant may potentially cause an open circuit, the 3 failed sensors in my car were sitting in fresh coolant in a car that's done 22,000 klms since 2011. I do fully agree though with your advice about the crucial importance sensors play, but in this one particular case the coolant level sensor is a known issue in (some) Series 1 cars - has anyone noticed the Series 2 cars have the coolant sensor located in a different position to the Series 1's (to the left of front centre) and that they also look a little different. If a faulty unit wasn't disconnected your option is to either endlessly stop or convince yourself to ignore it ... better I think to disconnect it as Peugeot service centres often advise, but to then also commit to resolving the cause, or replacing to ensure it does not stay disconnected any longer than necessary, to ensure, as you say, that the failsafe remains.
is it possible to fit a mk2 to a mk1 and see if that is the case?

The same thing happened to me and I was instructed by Peugeot Dealer to unplug it. Apparently, even if you replace it with a new one same issue will re-occur.
Now I have unplugged it no more worries. But please ensure to wrap a tape around the unplugged parts for water protection. See attached photo below

I can see me doing this to mine this week I’m on my 2nd sensor and it’s still doing it! It’s bloody annoying And if Peugeot are saying to unplug it that’s a story in itself on them sensors..

Sorry to drag up a dead thread, but can anyone help me to understand how to unplug the f**king sensor? 😂

I'm trying to replace mine and I can't seem to get past the weird little metal clasp on it. Do I need a tool? I don't want to go yanking on something I shouldn't and damaging it (stop sniggering at the back).

Cheers
