decided to replace the original battery on my rcz 2.0hdi yesterday as it was showing its age. I thought that it would be straightforward but took quite a while to swap over. Anyway, I eventually managed to do it and now the car wont even crank. the spoiler has come up on its own yet the manual indicator light is not lit and I cannot retract it, and the drivers window has gone down but will not go back up. car was absolutely fine prior to the battery swap is fully maintained and has covered 46k only. My wide and I both work in busy NHS centres, ive been stressed out all day as the car now has a bin liner on the door keeping the rain out, and upon ringing a number of garages I have been told its a window mechanism, an alternator a starter motor and an ecu by different experts. completely lost all faith now.

You may need to reset the BSI as these functions are Auxiliaries ? Another pointer is you should wait at least 5+ mins before repowering the car from the battery if its been disconnected there are post's on how to go about resetting BSI in the relevant sections

You should also wait around 3-5 minutes to let all systems close down before disconnecting the battery

Thanks for the comments, although nothing has made a difference. going to have to put some faith in an auto electrician now ... why do I feel that this isnt going to be cheap either, because they can say what they want. :(

Hi, changed mine yesterday. Car would not start (2.0 HDI), only one audible click and turns to economy mode. I tried the BSI reset, same problem. Then disconnected the positive terminal and connected it, followed by immediate key turn to ignition... nothing happened. Then I re-tightened the nuts of battery fuse terminal, there seemed to be some loose connection of some sort- and it turned on upon the final key twist. It loaded up several faults- deleted and reset with a diagnostic tool; then re-checked for recurring faults, but none popped up after that.

Hi, thanks for your reply to my post. I've had the RAC out and he couldn't find the fault, although it was dark and raining when he arrived and probably wasn't as thorough as he could have been. You said you retightened the nuts of the battery fuse terminal...which ones are they? There are two on the front of that fuse box which sits on the top of the battery so I am presuming you mean them. Been off the road since Saturday and taxis are crucifying me.

Go on YouTube type in changing the battery on Peugeot RCZ there are numerous vids also on 307 308 which are the same procedure you may have loss of power from the battery power module when you reconnected the battery?

I re-tightened all of them- don't know if that did the trick OR somehow moved the circuit whilst tightening in a kind of way which enabled better connection; or if it started by chance :/ But that seemed to work for me. I really wish for the car to start for you... it's really frustrating when faults like this occur

Amazing how many problems are caused just by not really tightening the negative and positive on the battery, make sure they are held on tight or it wont carry the current. I have a ratcheting spanner for the job to make it easier.

Hi All, thanks for the contributions to my post and the problem has now been fixed.

I called the RAC for a second time asking them to recover the car to an independent Peugeot specialist near me, as I had already got the car booked in for a cambelt change, the car has done 46k and is 9 years old so for what they quoted at the time ( £250.00 which included water pump and coolant ) it was a no brainer. I rang the garage explaining that my car was booked in today 5/11/21 but was also in need of recovery due to not starting and would it be ok to have it brought to the garage Wednesday 3/11/21 by the RAC and they said yes.
Anyway, I received a call from the garage yesterday afternoon to tell me that my car was ready, the cambelt etc had been changed and the book had been stamped, but the bill would be slightly higher than the £250 quoted. He said that there would be another £35 for diagnostics and ... a FUSE!!!
Fuse 8 on the fuse block inside the engine compartment had blown ( he said it was something that can happen after a battery change ) .All fault codes were cleared and my car is performing like new again, no thanks to the RAC.

Great news so your faith is restored in the Z? Regarding the fuse blowing it can happen with a power surge but is rare I think that's why its recommend to allow the Electrical systems to discharge before disconnecting the battery completely best way I found is use a donor battery (old battery off the car) plugged into the OBD port with the Sealey connector that way the car is live & you can't damage any fragile systems like fuses etc
