White streaking from door mirrors

Well, I have had my rcz since mid June, on the whole loved every second of if! Amazing car, chuffed to bits! I have noticed mention in other links of a White residue that comes from the door mirrors every time you wash the car or it rains. I have a black car and really badly suffer from this. I see that peugeot say it's a theme with all the rcz's. Is there a corporate stance on if they are going to do anything about it? It happened mine that really scorching time we had in June and actually burnt onto the paintwork. Peugeot did half a job of repairing it but seemed to point the finger at me for not drying the car properly. It's impossible to as it continually just drips down. I had supaguard put on just after I got it, and after their attempt to fix it which has supaguard over it! The poor attempt at the application of that and the damage caused to my paintwork in the process is another story! I'm in the process of writing my 3rd complaint letter about totally unsatisfactory service that I have had. So far I got 2free service and the posh carpet matts chucked in, but I see a theme about the quality of valeting staff Peugeot employ! Rant over and I feel better now, still love the car though, swirls and scratches and all!

This is rather worrying. You're not the first to mention this. I hope you get yours sorted out very soon. :(

I think when I get mine I will use a hot air dryer on all the nooks and crannies including the wing mirrors, to make sure that no drips will occur once I've washed it. By the sounds of it - you can't be too careful.

Thanks for the warning.

Oh dear! Is that why white seems to be quite a popular colour?

I've had the problem, but managed to remove it with polish, you can't stop the running water as it's trapped in the mirror body, I think a good application of a decent wax will also help, I'm afraid Supaguard is not going to help especially if it was put on after it had been cleaned and the water was already running down.

Yup, my first car had this problem and no amount of polishing by Peugeot valeters could remove it

Salesman showed me the rubber seal on other peogeots around the door mirror has been omitted on the RCZ as it spoils the lines

instead we get even more lines vertical down the doors... not good !

Have you tryed those water absorbent cloths that can take double the amount of water in one cloth around the mirror and gap /edges this would take up the excess water up and when you fold the mirrors dry that area too may help.

i have a 207gt with folding mirrors and when the mirrors fold when wet water runs down doors too leaving marks or it could be a grease from the moter on the mirrors which in time may disapear.

A mod maybe required i.e. a drainage hole drilled in to the underside of the mirrors.

Well, I have taken her back to the dealer who agreed the paintwork looked shoddy, I'm taking it back in on Monday and they are sending it to a specialist bodyshop to repair the damage the dealer veleter and supposed supagard specialist did! This was meant to save time and effort, I would certainly think twice those of you considering paint guard applications, I'm sure a periodic bit of time and effort would give a better and safer outcome, or even pay a detailler to do it for you. I'm regretting having it done now.

Dear All.

I thought I would just give you an up-date with regard to this problem, I have been in touch with Peugeot both through the dealer and Peugeot Prod who have in turn passed my information to their QA department.

The bottom line is we have to live with it a little longer before it can be looked at and resolved, either by modifcation or replacement.

But I can share a little info on how I get around this problem which does stop the mark appearing most of the time, what I do is lightly knock between the mirror housing and door with your finger knuckle (between the indicator and door to be precise) it will move / release the water / white powder which is trapped inside the mirror, this stops any future leaking and the formation of the mark, you need to do it fairly quickly - like knocking on a door, but you will be surprized just how much retained water there is in there.

I also do this if the car has been in heavy rain as well, but the majority of the time the mark appears after washing.

I hope this tip helps, I've certainly seen a big improvement since I've being doing this, but my finger is sore  ;) - just don't go mad.

How serious is it? I get some very dull streaking along the sides of the mirrors and across the tops of the wheel-arches when I'm driving fast in the rain but I thought it was just the airflow over the car and the fact that most rain is - er - dirty.

The mark is coming from the mirror housing itself and nowhere else, this is what it can look like:

It looks like chalky water and slowly drips down the car after washing or heavy rain. The above photo was taken after I had tapped it a few times so you can see the residue which if left will set on the car and can be a pain to remove, but when wet it just wipes off.

No real panic it's just a matter of controlling it.

Thanks Rob for that tip. I am seriously going to use a hairdryer on a low heat setting on mine. I know I'll get some strange looks from the neighbours but what the heck, rather that than horrible stains that can't be removed.

Has anyone tried operating the folding mirror mechanism a few times to see if that aids in dispelling more water?

I'll be (hopefully) washing mine this weekend and will give it a go.
