I was just leaving work when the lads coming onto shift had seen it on the news and were telling us about it in the works canteen.

I agree, even after all these years and all that film footage, it's still hard to take in when those planes hit the towers.

The shot that amazes me is the one with the fireman chatting and laughing on the sidewalk when the plane flies low overhead and he looks up at it as it hits the tower.
What are the chances of a camera being there at that particular moment interviewing a fireman, it seems all the more tragic when you now know that within hours of that shot being filmed hundreds of his collegues are going to be dead, and maybe even himself.

Has anyone visited ground zero ?

I was in a car showroom watching it on CNN on a video wall. Everthing stopped, we had most of the staff from the surrounding businesses come in to watch it too.

It was a very strange day.

I was at work when my colleagues husband rang and told her. We didn't have a television and no access to Internet then at work so it wasn't until I got home at 6pm and I stood watching the news, not moving, for well over an hour, transfixed. It was like watching some Hollywood blockbuster but knowing that it was actually real life, made it just surreal. Scenes that I don't think anyone of us will ever, ever forget.

I was at home, and was going to put the news on. When I saw it, I thought it was a film. I never thought it was real until I saw people jumping.... Nuff said

I was on the New York subway, on the way to visit the WTC. Still have the (unused) ticket.

I was in Abbey Gardens on Tresco (Isle of Scilly) Overheard animated voices and knew something big had occurred. Took a few hours to discover what and even longer to come to terms with the reality.

I was on my way to work in Santiago. Upon entering the offices the recepcionist told me that a jet had crashed into the WTC and it was in flames. My heart froze as my girlfriend at the time worked in the WTC....the WTC in Santiago that is! The relief of that moment soon turned into disbelief when I saw what had happened in NYC.
