Howdy Guys,

I went into a local Company today to drop in some parts to be blasted and powder coated.
I use them for all our refinishing and they havent let me down yet. They are Cambrian Paints at Rednal Industrial Estate Oswestry Shropshire. They are on the web.

I got talking to them after reading about refinishing issues that some of the forum guys have had getting their wheels redone. They explained that they need the tyres removed and the rims are ready to go.
After blasting the alloy wheels with a special media they powder coat the entire wheel, thats the front, the inside, the back and the tyre contact faces. Then depending on colour, they apply a lacquer to guard against brake dust. Apparently some colours have it included in its coat. They cook the wheels and the jobs a good`un.

I asked how much this lot cost for an 18" or 19" wheel? He said £65 plus vat per wheel!!!!

Now thats worth thinking about because the finish is perfect. Thats got to be a bargain.

That's good info RobRac,
It would be of interest to find out how much they charge for diamond cut wheel as this is what most of the RCZ's have.

Thanks !

A lot of places that can refurbish wheels can’t do diamond cut as it requires seperate machinery.

I believe the process is similar to that described by robrac, but before the lacquer coat is applied, the wheel is placed on a diamond cutting jig, and the front face is exposed as required. Then the lacquer coat is applied.

I got my diamond cut wheels done at CJ powder coating in Grimsby. They did a good job.

I got quoted £350 by the wheel specialists in garforth near Leeds. This is for a drive in drive out service which I think is a great deal! They remove the wheels and the tyres then refurb the wheels and then blast and powder coat. Refit tyres and balance the back on car for collection turnaround a day and a half.
They have the equipment to do the diamond cutting as well.
I’m torn between this service and buying some new aftermarket alloys I just can’t find an alloy I like under £2500! So it may have to be the refurbishment :eusa-think:

Howdy,

Yes getting wheels done that are diamond cut is a totally different thing.
Basically the colour is applied and then removed in certain areas to highlight. This isnt what I was on about here though.

Some firms "paint" the wheel with the tyre still on, some remove the tyre and then just finish the front side,
Some never paint the complete inner side, some dont refinish the tyre contact and bead area,

This firm does the best blasting and powder coating job I have ever seen of a single colour silver wheel.
For that price, incredible.

For diamond cuts its a specialist jobbie

Google the wheel specialist in Leeds and on their site you can request a quote but if you contact them by phone or have a drive over they will discount that price.

There is a place in Wakefield that also does Diamond Cut refurbishing. I believe their prices range from £90 - £120 per corner depending on the work required (those prices may be a bit out of date).
I will PM you their number, I don’t know the name of the firm.

The alloys on the R are matte black not gloss black so you can’t polish them

That'll change Mark if you are still coming to the Yorkshire meeting on the 19th May?

and if you are, are you still meeting up in York for the drive in?

Last time I enquired about diamond cut they were £95 per corner. And Yes as RCZ1 quoted definitely matt black not gloss.

Cheers M.
