WD40 aka Duck Oil new found use

Popped into my local car spares to pick up some tar remover and the guy proceeded to give me a tin of WD40?
Perplexed he said it was the best thing to remove tar spots from the paintwork. I had some Duck Oil at home so declined his offer and said I would try that?
He was right I started by trying it on a cloth and the tar came off with a little rubbing with no effect to the paintwork, so I ended up spraying direct onto the effected areas and letting it soak and hey presto it's now a tar free car.
Being Pearl White the tar spots were quite noticeable, a polish with Meguiars NXT2 and the car felt silky smooth and looked a treat.
