'water marks' on arches

Just returned from hand car wash and noticed that the aluminium arches appear to be marked (all over) with what seems to be water marks.

Tried using plain water to remove but the marks are still there.

Hesitant to use any polish/vigorous rubbing until I hear if anyone else has experienced this (and if they have how they fixed the problem).

Thanks

Martyn

The arches do seem to love holding water marks especially when using the windscreen jets.

I generally get rid of them during washing by drying as soon as they've been cleaned. It tends to do the trick.

Obviously using cutting polishes will sort it out, but personally I'm hesitant to do that as well.

You only need a polish with a slight cut. Polishing by hand isn't going to be too vigorous. Even hand car washes use very strong TFR's (Traffic Film Removers) and if not removed quickly will mark and eventually cause cloudiness of the arches.

There's a topic on here about removing the 'milky marks'. I used Autoglym super resin polish and it did the trick.

Should you polish then seal with something like C2 to protect and stop this happening RCZ1?

I put C1 on mine and there's never been any marks what so ever since

As already said there are a few threads on this.
I use DoDo Lime Lite or Auto Glym Super Resin Polish., then protect with Wax.

I have mentioned this also in the past, that I know someone who swears by household Windowlene for the arches, it does not cut but completely removes any water marks.

I've just used the same, seems to have done the trick with some effort.

Heres a sort of "before and after" type shot, from today.

Indeed, though oddly the drivers side took far less effort than the passengers?

I haven't put wax on as I don't have any to hand, unfortunately, though I will be off to buy some soon, and after tidying it up further, I'll then wax it and hope that keeps the marks away :).

Can I ask, how do you wash your car? Do you do it yourself or do you take it somewhere to be cleaned?

I'm just wondering what is used on your car to cause this in the first place.

Only had the Z just over a week, so unfortunately I've no clue! One thing that nagged me from the start was those arches though, something had to be done once I found time..

Though it does seem others have this issue too? Would be interesting to know what causes it. Good to know it can be remedied though with a little effort.

The previous owner used to take it to the local hand car wash. I know this as when we were doing the handover, he said, "When you take it to the hand car wash, tell them not to jet wash the side stripes...". I was like, "Nobody cleans my cars but me!!".

It's aggressive TFRs or Traffic Film Removers that car washes and hand car washed use. If they are kept in the car too long and not rinsed off, it causes this cloudiness.
