I am presently mid re map of my RCZ THP Sport - owned it almost a year now and following installation of a cold air intake, upgraded turbo dump valve and solid alloy turbo hoses I am pleased to say that we have mapped to 196 BHP from the stock 156 BHP.

As part of that process I had my inlet ports checked and walnut blasted - yep they opened the ports and blasted them at high pressure to remove all the gunk that builds up on the valves pre direct fuel injection.

I am sure that some of you will have experience of this and I would be interested to hear how you got on with it. My experience so far has been a smoother more responsive throttle, much better torque across the lower rev range with the main power coming at at about 3900 revs and it allowed me to map to stage 1 up to 196 BHP.

Before and after photos below (I know they could have given me any old photos but I have to trust them that it is my car 😀).

Anyone interested in the mods I have made just let me know and I will post pictures:
  1. GFB dump valve upgrade
  2. Cold air intake to replace the stock air filter system and box
  3. Hard alloy intake pipes
  4. Stage 1 mapping
  5. Walnut blast
Thanks and happy RCZ motoring.

Hi - thanks for your message. 33400 miles on a 12 plate. Once done I noticed a smoother accelerator pickup and a slight dead spot in the acceleration in 1st gear had gone. Then it was mapped to stage 1 to bring up the BHP and torque.

Hi - the walnut blast was £265 inc VAT - was advised to get it done prior to the mapping to ensure the max could be obtained from the map.
Hi, could you please tell me where you had this done? Been trying to find a garage that can do this on RCZ.

Just goes to show what crap can build up at such a low mileage, I’m at 34K so looks like it’s going to be worthwhile to have this done then fit an oil catch can which should help to minimise future buildup

Hi - yes sure. Burch Motor Works - Christchurch Dorset BH23 4HD

tel:01425 277800
Thank you. I contacted a BMW and Mini specialist which is closer to me but unfortunately they can't do RCZ. Found SPT Tuning which seems to do a lot of DS3 but further than Burch Motor works. Now I am thinking if I am going to go all the way to all these places I might as well do a walnut blast and stage 1 remap 😁

How's the GFB Dump Valve so far? How long have you had it?
