Too much of a risk??

Hi guys

Looking at a few second hand rcz's at the moment and wondered if anyone could help me out and share some thoughts. I'm 20, owned a v70 for 3 years and wanting something unique much smaller, and more sporty. I commute 40 miles a day and probably do 15,000 a year. Other thoughts include abarth 595, maybe sirocco, much newer 208 GTI and maybe a sportier mini.

Firstly i'm looking at thp 200's with 20-30000 miles on the clock. Is this too old? Would I be praying too hard for an RCZ that isn't full of issues? I mean I've heard lots of things, both on here and from a few friends who are pug owners, about poor reliability. Is buying from the second hand market too risky without warranty? Is it possible to tell the good from the bad with a good pre-purchase inspection or is this not enough? I've done a few bits on my 1999 Volvo but wouldn't say I'm mechanically skilled nor do I have the money to just pass it on to a mechanic if something goes wrong every few months.

My second dilemma was trying to decide whether the original or facelift would be a better option. After a sudden change of heart this week, I have now decided I prefer the looks of the first but understand the facelift has a few upgrades parts that are more durable?

Finally I have found a few (sorry I don't know the paint colour) with a really dull bluey grey colour that I really like with full white interior. Anyone have any experience with the white interior? Looks gorgeous imo but not sure how it would hold up.

Thanks for your time all

Have a look at my reply here viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10554

As for the interior, I have the leather colour you mention, my GT200 has now done @ 27k and I have owned it for the majority of them. The condition is great. The only things to watch for are the "wings" on the drivers seat, as they can get worn from the driver getting in and out.

As for the dull grey colour you mention, I think you are referring the the asphalt limited edition. I believe this was only made in the Mk1 version. I have seen these in the flesh, and they are very impressive, but from speaking to the owners, I understand they are not the easiest paint finish to maintain (you cannot polish them, and need special shampoo - not wash & wax, just to clean them ).

Do not be put off from reading on here about all the problems the RCZ has. Remember, this forum is used by most people to discuss problems they have, not by the many who have had trouble free motoring.

I hope you choose an RCZ, you will not regret it, it is a unique car amongst a multitude of boxes on today's roads

Warranty, all depends on whether you can afford it if something goes wrong.

Cheaper option not to go with warranty, but if something went wrong.....

A little up front to cover if and when something goes wrong.

Not saying it will but a little insurance if it does.
