6mths ago went into limp mode when turbo kicked in ..fan speed to take off ! is that normal cooling speed ? engine needs repair and all that came on but just drove ok otherwise ..Car left for 2 wks and fan came on straight away ? only crept up nx village for paper ..left car running ..came home ..weather crap so not brave enough to venture out and get stuck ..Always thort it was T/CHAIN +SENSOR problem. Can live without turbo .. but forum threads are a right mixture of cures for fan issues.. Is it possible to change chain module by dropping engine off mount and remove under w/arch as per mini "1600"

Timing chain ? if the car runs as normal & there is no visible misfires etc then chain may be OK You may have a cooling issue if the fan knocks its B*****Ks off when you start up but if coolant level & your Air con is normal then it may rule out a thermostat issue or maybe its fan module playing up
If the chain is stretched it will carry on rattling after the cold start has gone off but you can have a sticking plunger in the tensioner which will cause the same rattles
The lesser known rattle is or can be attributed to a noisy water pump as mine was on 37.000ish Klms so don't rule that out
As for the "Chain module" ? Yes you can take the wheel arch liner off to get at the water pump or ancillaries
I would scan teh car for extra assurance that its behaving itself
