Lifespan was assumed to be 100.000 Klm but a combination of failing tensioners poor oil services will decrease it an alarming rate if you got a high mileage engine put 5w-30 Quartz Ineo low saps 2 I use the code 3 in my 200 this will hopefully prolong the chain & tensioner as it has a thicker viscosity but you could go with the so called experts advice on here & stick in the cat's piss 0w.30 as they reckon its THE correct Peugeot oil for the Prince engine's???

Thanks Pedro, 5/30 sounds good to me. I notice you are Cheshire, can you recommend an RCZ service specialist? My local Peugeot dealer quoted a fortune for a new wiring loom when all that was required was a new turbo solenoid valve!!!

Thanks for that Pedro. I'll try him next mot and service. He's a Merc specialist but time served with Peugeot. Website looks good. Fed up with paying shareholders and talking to reception desk who don't know a bonnet from a bootlid and service manager is only interested in chasing targets (at any cost)

Fact is Pug themselves changed the recommended oil specs from 5w30 to 0w30 in the Service Booklet for THP engined cars over time.

Use 5w30 it if you want I have before.......0w will flow quicker than 5w from cold start......it's all bollocks really as long as you use either and change on a regular basis, I use 0w30 Ineo First Total stuff.

Interestingly I have seen that 5w30 is not recommended at all for 1.6THP Euro 6 engines by Citroen in their DS4's.....with bold lettering stating Ineo First 0w30 is only recommended oil.....to meet pollution and fuel consumption targets.

Thanks Flanners viscosity info very interesting. My 200 has never been abused from cold (less than 3000rpm until warm) and oil changed every 5k. Planning on having chains checked for stretch at 30000 by independent Merc, Pug and Citroen specialist not too far from me and engine oil sample analysed out of curiosity. I'll post findings in due course

Hit the nail on the head it is a load of bollocks just a load of marketing gimmicks to sell zillions of litre's of oil the sellers are getting at marked down prices from warehouse's stuffed full of the stuff I always say trust your instincts as for the Handbook you can use 0w.30 or 5w.30 in the same fookin engine so what's that all about

Totally disagree Peugeot changed the spec after all the timing chain issues, you can use chip oil fat in your car for me but owners need to know what Peugeot recommends.
It’s total bo##%%$ that it’s a marketing ploy! 🤣🤣🤣

Why is there 2 different grades of oil in the handbook & PSA didn't build the prince engines so why did they change the oil spec was it because BMW told them to? My mate ran his diesel on chip fat which he used to get delivered from the Chippy but it smoked like hell from a cold start 😆

Designed and built by PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW, Peugeot manufactured the parts for the prince engine, but I suppose they don’t know what they’re talking about, probably more interested in selling off all the 0W-30 oil they’ve got stockpiled 😆
There was a spell where recycled cooking oil was being used like you say smoked and blocked the fuel filters up but smelled nice going down the road 🤣🤣
