Tax and MOT

As it is very many years since I had a car long enough to need an MOT I can't recall the procedure. Do I need to MOT it early in order to tax it or if I tax it early will it be OK as the vehicle isn't quite due an MOT?

It needs a valid MOT in order to tax it If you do it online, it will just check the date its due, and if it still has an MOT then it will go through.

Well it won't have an MOT as they will both be due on the same day. So will it issue a tax disc as it doesn't need an MOT on the day that I buy the tax disc?

Ah, then you would need to MOT it early.

If the tax is due on the day the car is 3 years old then you will need a MOT.

You can have a MOT done early and it will not expire until the proper expiry date in 2015.

OK, I'm sorted now. I simply couldn't remember which way around it was. I know both can be done early, but simply couldn't recall if I could tax it on this occasion without it having been MOT'd on the basis that the car does not need a MOT on the day that I applied for the disc. I shall book it in for it's MOT which is covered by the monthly service plan that I have with my dealer and then tax it. Thanks all (this'll be the third tax disc I've had to buy within a month :thumbdown: )
