strange noise from front brakes

ok, in case anyone has the same issue, before you start replacing drive shafts..... i recently had a binding left brake which i freed off, by stripping and cleaning it, then the right one started binding the next day. I couldnt work out what the one noise per wheel rotation was coing from. Concluded it was firstly on the left side though it spread to the right as well, i was prising drive sgafts for front left.....then i thought of something...surely the noise wasnt the rubbing of the retaining clips on the front 340mm brakes. yes it was, on both sides, they hadnt quite been clipped in level and were catching on the interior of the aloy wheels. In case anyone has a strange noise that sounds like drive shafts, before you start stripping the front drivetrain. I found a case on line where someones wheel was causibng the actual noise after he had stripped the drive shafts etc and already replaced....

One thing I encountered was the rear brakes sticking on after car was left for a few days so I leave the handbrake on low notches which cured the problem other issue I did have was front brakes binding more noticeable with hill starts the only cure is get the carriers & pads out & clean them out & file any rusty crud off the carrier housing where the pads sit as they can over time become lazy due to build-up of dirt a dab of brake grease on contact points in both sides works wonders

yes, ive had to do that on both my front calipers now, ivr never added grease but if it happens again i may add, i think its the caliper thats sticking on one side every few months, i bought a full used caliper set and pads to change as i cant compress that caliper more than a few mm as its so tight, and will have to be replaced eventually as i wont be able to get the new full pads in in future into the caliper. thankfully ive not had issue with rear handbrake locking, just a once in a while clonk if its left on for days. It was that clicking noise from the front retaining clips that puzzled me, i almost ordered a drive shaft, but thankfully realised it was the clips that were catching the alloys.
