Hi all!
I am thinking to buy my first RCZ. I saw one advertised from a Peugeot detailer, but showed no photos. When they emailed the photos the roof arches are black. I much prefer silver. Was told it had been custom made in factory and previous owner requested black arches. When looked at closely in the photos it seems like some silver is showing through at the edges as if they had been originally in silver, but I can't be sure.

I asked dealer to look into getting them sprayed. How will this look? Are original silver arches actually silver metal and are black arches made from plastic? Would a good spray paint job be the same as buying with original silver arches?

Thanks

The silver arches on the RCZ are coated metal. The Black arches are plastic.

The silver arches are a smooth finish, the black arches are textured.

I think if you had black arches sprayed silver, they wouldn’t look as you hoped, as they wouldn’t resemble the silver arches on other RCZ’s.

You could maybe look at getting them wrapped, you could choose the exact colour you want, and the finish would probably be smoother than if painted, although still probably not exactly like original silver arches.

The weird thing is, most enquires on here about arches are from people wanting to make their silver arches black :eusa-think:

Thanks for your reply.

That's interesting most people want to go the other way around from silver to black. I must be a bit of an oddball which is exactly how a good mechanic known to me described the RCZ when asked for his opinion on it.

Was trying to upload a photo, but is too big. I've a funny feeling from the photos the original was silver metal and was possibly resprayed which would make it easier if I go that route. I will ask the dealer to check if metal or plastic when they open on Monday.

If they are black you could get them wrapped chrome or alloy, some of the modern vinyls are amazing

Would anyone have any idea how much it might cost to get the arches sprayed or wrapped? Just a ballpark figure.

Thanks for all replies. I've uploaded a photo of the side view of the car I'm looking at. I think the arches are metal, but a more experienced trained eye could probably tell better than me. Looks light it might have been silver chrome underneath as the colour seems to be showing through along the edges. I'm not too keen on the red stripe/GT logo along the bottom. I'm hoping that's vinyl and can be removed.

Is wrapping durable/hardwearing? I'm completely new to all this. Only discovered RCZ in last few months and really prefer silver chrome arches. I am in south of Ireland. RCZ is extremely rare here and to find a good one at the right year and mileage is impossible. The one I'm looking at is in Northern Ireland and the dealer will sort out the arches from there if suitable.

I'm looking to buy asap as we have no idea how Brexit will impact UK car import market here for us at end of March. Prices could go up by 10 to 20% plus increased insurance costs on higher car value.

It’s really hard to tell from this photo but I would say if the car is a Mk1 then they’re probably wrapped if a MK2 probably black plastic.

Turns out the arches were wrapped. When I saw it in the flesh I actually really liked them black. Bought the car and salesman said to leave the wrapping on for a few weeks before making a decision to remove as I might get used to it and prefer it that way. Guessing he also said that as he said sometimes the silver metal does corrode. So he probably has no way of knowing what condition they are in underneath if any rust had set in. Will take delivery of car in just over a week.

Thanks for all info here.
