So...apparently it's not just some Peugeot dealerships that

...are useless!! This might make some of you feel a little better. Due to the current (and ongoing saga) now known in my house as Pirelli-gate, my car went in to a local Vauxhall dealership have all four P Zero tyres replaced due to a flaw in them ahead of them being sent to Milan to be inspected. Car went in...and came out with four new tyres...AND two bonus kerbed 20" alloys. They came to my attention on my standard walk round of the car ahead of driving off which I always carry out for exactly this reason. One very one sided and rather contemptuous "conversation" with a service manager later and the end result was an admission of guilt and a promise that they will honour their repair/replacement. Honestly...what is wrong with these people?!?! **angry sigh**

Wow that's poor. The person doing it must have realised and tried to get away with it. 2 20'' Diamond cut alloys to refurb now, ouch Vauxhall ££££

Thanks Dan. They might not get off that easy, I'm pushing for their replacement. They went in undamaged, why should I settle for a shaved alloy? ;) Someone in the dealership is going to have some very sore knuckles by the end of the day tomorrow!

It will be difficult indeed to refurbish 20 inch diamond cut alloys to the exact finish as new wheels, also not many wheel specialists have the platform/machinery to refurbish a 20"s go for new alloys and stand your ground Matt

Thanks guys and girls. To say I am rather displeased would be a vast understatement. I'm going to lodge an official complaint with VX HQ and push for two replacements.

How was it done? My immediate thought was a thrash round the block.

Yeah...that's my worry too. I'm usually fairly meticulous about photographing the mileage as I leave the car or zeroing the trip computer at the least. However today I was pressed for time dropping the car off during the work day and racing to get back between classes and forgot. :( I cannot see how else it could have been damaged as the customer parking is directly across the lot from the service centre and on the very same sight!! I couldn't even spot a kerb!!

Sorry for you, man.
Your bad luck with dealers doesn't appear to run out.
Hope it gets sorted to your liking.

(Not at all condoning what's happened) but I imagine 20"s are a pain in the hoop to change. I know most garages even struggle with 19"s. That said, it looks like their resident monkey has changed them. But to not even admit it, barstewards.....
Garages are notorious for not admitting liabilty, I remember watching the tyre fitter knacker my locking stud, I SAW him do it, but he still denied it. Said that they Peugeot studs were notoriously soft, WTF!!???
On the other hand, a young lad once scraped Steve's RS alloy, on the inside, but admitted it and apologised (and needlessly didn't charge). Steve didn't mind as it wasn't visible and at least he owned up. Same fitters removed my RCZ wheel weights with a screwdriver and what a mess the wheels have been left in. Lesson learned is to buy separate winter wheels to minimise any damage.........

(I missed the saga about the Pirellis, please recap!)

There has to be a pretty big risk in them just saying "it was like that when you came here with it" right? How do you argue with that unless you have actual photos of each wheel?

Anyway i just find it stupid that people working on those garages, IF they did indeed make a mistake might aswell just pay for it. What's it to them?! They don't pay for the rim themselves, it has nothing to do with their person or their salary whatsoever, as opposed to (in this case) Vauxhall. Who should someone who works in a garage even remotely care if Vauxhall has to pay a grand or two for some new rims that they messed up? It should go without saying!

But no, weirdly every single guy that works in a place like that has to be so tight it nearly kills him if he has to give away a rubber hose worth £2 for free.....

The individual dealership franchise will pay for this not GM it's a franchise like a MacDonalds

Well even so. They can probably afford it!

I guess it's called protecting their jobs. If they cost the dealership money through their errors it could well result in unemployment. Good reason for not being open and honest.

Well, I never received the promise phone call to discuss what they plan to do to resolve it...much to my irritation.

There's an inherent risk that they could indeed have argued that. However, they carry out a check of the vehicle before work commences and record any damage that they observe. They failed to record any damage (unsurprising rally as there was none to note) and therefore, on this occasion, their own paperwork and negligence is their undoing.
