Hi all,

Got a 2012 Asphalt with full Peugeot service history from the original purchase dealer. Car has 30,000 on the clock.

Now, I'm handy with a spanner and have the facilities to carry out servicing and relatively large mechanical repairs. I serviced all my previous cars but with the Asphalt being a little bit special is it worth maintaining the full Peugeot service history? Will it increase it's value, not that I plan on selling it anytime soon.

We as a family service our cars mainly due to not fully trusting mechanics/dealers and having some bad experiences where one problem is fixed then another in generated. I'm sure there are many fair mechanics out there, I've just yet to find one. So many times we find out even a basic job of the oil filter being changed, hasn't been done as I had marked the filter.

Anyway what are your thoughts?

That's not an easy question to answer Rob !
It depends on you and what you maybe have in mind with your Asphalt, do you intend keeping it to see if it increases in value ( due to it's rarity ), or is it financial and you are wanting to keep it's value high. If the latter is true then the service history adds a chunk to the value, tbh I have found whatever you do the dealers have an answer for everything - in their favour !
If you're buying and it hasn't full history - it's these cars are bullet proof and can go for ever with just a sip of oil !
If you see a dint or a scratch - it's this car is a used car it's 6 years old, your expectations are too high etc etc etc
So, you can't win.
To me if you are going to keep it for a considerable length of time and you are confident what you are doing - fine, your car, your choice.

Upto now my local dealer in Castleford has always done me right and I have no concerns of shoddy workmanship, so for me it's full dealer servicing, plus the fact it helps with issues like warranty etc.

Cheers M.

Like Plecodoras, said it all depends on what your long term thoughts are. The asphalt is quite a rare model so eventually will be one of the more sort after models but how long that will be is anyone’s guess?? Second hand trade in will be knocked by not having dealer history but privately I wouldn’t think it would make Much difference especially if you have a great big wad of receipts for service parts and the service book has been personally updated with parts used and type of service carried out.
I think your right about not trusting most dealer mechanics there are loads of horror stories documented on here, I’m lucky I have a Peugeot mechanic who I trust, not a main dealer but I trust him to do what he says which is the main thing.
If you have the equipment and the knowledge to self service go for it at least you know it’s done right!

Certainly a tricky one!

I've essentially made a decision based on the fact I'm going to whack a warranty on the car for 1 maybe 2 years, so I'll need to maintain servicing at a VAT registered mechanic.

So I'm likely to maintain the full Peugeot service history for at least the duration of the warranty at John Pease Peugeot in Braintree, Essex. Then depending on valuation, I'll then take on maintenance myself.

Thanks for the input chaps!

As long as it's done by a VAT registered garage it doesn't have to be a main dealership.

A good independent Peugeot specialist garage would be a good idea!
