Replacing my RCZ with a 208 GTI

Lately I was thinking of changing my RCZ HDI sports model installed with easy motion pack which I have bought for 37,000 euro locally. The car has only 6000 miles on the clock and is 2 yrs old.

The reason being is that the RCZ is physically not what one calls a small car, and thought of keeping basically the same level of performance (surely not the looks), the same level of equipment and a smaller package. The GTI is currently being sold for approx 26,000 Euro and with the options that I specked, the car went up to about 28,600. Although not cheap I was under the impression that as I was loyal to the brand and will be dealing with the same dealer I would get a good price for my car.
To my astonishment, yesterday I received a reply that my car was evaluated for approx 23,000 and that I need to fork an additional 5600 euro to be able to procure the GTI.

When I look to sites such as:

http://www.uktomalta.com/stock/peugeot/ ... nrf387388=
(%20(milage%20>=%200)%20%20and%20fuel%20like%20%27%25%25%27%20%20and%20transmission%20like%20%27%25%25%27%20%20and%202013%20-%20year%20<=%20100%20%20and%20doors%20like%20%27%25%25%27%20%20and%20description%20like%20%27%25%25%27%20%20and%20description%20like%20%27%25%25%27%20%20and%200%20=%200%20)

The cheapest model starts from 25,100 with 20,000 miles on the clock with no optional pack installed.

I was thinking that I would have at least got something better for my car. As a hit of 13,400 euro in 2 years is quite high.
For now I will surely be keeping my the RCZ and will look into selling my car privately as I am sure that if I wait I can get a far better price!

I'm not sure what the easy motion pack is. We don't have something called that in the UK. However, since the introduction of the facelifted RCZ, values of the "original" Z have fallen slightly. Furthermore, you don't tend to get your money back on options. Subsequent owners will get the value of those I'm afraid. The trade in price you have been given is the traders book price. When they come to sell it on, they will probably be charging similar prices to those you have seen advertised. You will always get more for your car if you sell privately but then you have the trouble of doing so. It just needs to be priced right. Good luck :)

The thing is that for second hand cars in Malta the price is compared and is equivalent to other foreign countries.

But this is not what actually happens when we buy new!

The price is quite high and you can surely buy a new bog standard RCZ a lot cheaper in the UK.

To my knowledge the RCZ starts at around 21,000 sterling in UK. If you convert this to euro it should translate to roughly 24,000 euro and not 37,000.

So it’s not fair that prices are compared to other countries when selling and we do not get the same prices when buying.

The easy motion pack is a pack that includes most of the GT standard feature, such as front sensors, automatic dipping mirrors on reverse, automatic diming mirror etc., without the leather and the 19 " alloys.

You are quite right. The RCZ is way more expensive in Malta than here, brand new. So in actual fact, you do take a very big hit come trade in over in Malta. I presume shipping costs are exorbitant to have one sent out from the UK?

The easy motion pack sounds like a lot of those features are now standard on the facelifted Sport model.

Here in Finland taxes are crazy high so the person who originally bought my car had to pay probably something like 42.000 € (if not more) with all the optional extras that are on it back in 2011 and i bought it 2nd hand for 29.000 €. Now that's a drop i wouldn't wanna fund!

The only facelifted version i've seen on sale here is an Opal white 156 Sport with NO extras whatsoever and they are charging 37.000 € for it! Good luck getting that one sold really!

Replaced my RCZ with a 208 GTI 5 weeks ago, been delighted with the new car. I do miss the large boot and the clock but the GTI drives so much better than the Z. Don't get the same looks on the street but the driving pleasure more than makes up for it. A faster car but £50 less road tax and 3 ins groups less.
