Hi guys I was hoping you can shed some light here! Yesterday I got my new wheels fitted under warranty :) so as I had a hour and a half wait I decided to see if they had a new R in which they did ( demo ) long story short we went for a very long test drive and I've now falling in love with that! Bugger my only issues are I got the diesel as the petrol seems to have more problems, so my question - has the R had these issues fixed as I'm not buying it if they haven't as I'm worried 270bhp out of a small engine maybe unreliable? If it's the same engine as the others. Sorry if that does make any sense!

Makes perfect sense to me Alex.
I am wondering the same, as in a year or two, I will be thinking about selling my incredibly reliable hdi, and having some fun in an R. But like you am worried that it will have some of the faults of the other petrol engines. As yet I haven't noticed anyone complaining about the R in relation to the common petrol engine related problems. I'm sure if they do get them down the line, this will be the best site to gets a heads up.

As another HDi owner.

I think that the engine has internal changes to it to be able to provide the extra BHP.
So they might have corrected the other little problems they had without actually realising it (or actually designed to work properly).

I think I'll be sticking with the HDi as I have only ever had 1 petrol car (unless they come up with a hybrid preferably in diesel, might be worthwhile going for the convertible option as well). :D

Nope the timing chain death rattle is still an issue on the RCZR. All the changes they've made but still haven't fixed the underlying problem of the bloody plastic tensioner I'm afraid :(

I will be more interested in what happens after 50K miles - especially if it has had a hard life.

I'd be glad to give you that answer in about a year and a half :)
I'm spanking my R lady like stupid. Honestly. I treat that car as it was built for. After warming her up, it is press the pedal to the metal. My daily MPG varies between 23 and 21. When I'm out on the roads for longer trips that MPG goes way below 20.

Coming saturday I might have some time to strip the wheels of the car and measure the brake wear off.

I also will start to change the oil every other 6000 miles instead the usual service interval. Other than that, no changes to my driving style.
