Peugeot sales hold their own in an August market down 17.6%

Peugeot Press: Peugeot has continued its strong 2010 sales performance in August, bucking the trend in a month as disappointing for its car sales as it was for its weather.

An excellent performance by its three award winning models, the 3008, 5008 and RCZ, helped Peugeot match its 2009 sales performance in a market that declined by 17.6%.

The extra appeal of its new models has strengthened Peugeot’s resilience in a tough post-scrappage market and has helped the brand increase its year to date sales by 16.8%, in a market up 13.2%.

The practical, stylish and economic Peugeot 107 city run-about had a particularly strong performance, thanks to the fact that buyers can now drive away with fully comprehensive insurance for three years (available from 21 years of age on the 107 Millesim), three years of warranty, three years of servicing, three years of roadside assistance and three years of vehicle excise duty, all for a single fixed monthly payment of just £197 under Peugeot’s innovative Just Add FuelTM finance package. Other models in the Peugeot range have also benefited from increased sales from the Just Add FuelTMprogramme in August.

Peugeot’s range of stylish models is not only proving popular with retail buyers; 2010 has seen overall fleet sales increase by just under 25%, with registrations up just under 20% in August, a traditionally quiet month ahead of the September plate change. These figures give Peugeot a 6.26 per cent share of the fleet market year-to-date.

Peugeot vans are also continuing to perform strongly, up 28.4 per cent year to date, with the small, economic and driver-friendly Bipper and Partner vans proving particularly attractive.

Commenting on the figures, Jon Goodman, Managing Director, Peugeot UK, said: “These figures show just how strong the Peugeot brand has become, outperforming the car market considerably in tough post-scrappage conditions and maintaining sales in a traditionally quiet August.

The results bear testament to the appeal of Peugeot’s new cars but also to our ability to deliver the kind of all-round motoring experience the UK public wants and needs.”
