Has anyone experienced problems with the filler cap locking mechanism ?

Mine started making a "thudding" noise a few weeks ago when I unlocked/locked the car, but now it's squeeking when I lock the car and it has jammed locked twice this morning.

Mine started thudding about 2 months ago but didn't think anything of it. Didn't think it was normal...

The mechanism is very simple. There's not much that can go wrong.
You may want to check that the plastic latch that comes from the cap and has a hole in it which the lock pin goes through is not bent.
When I got my RCZ (ex demo) the latch was missing so it didn't lock but when I mentioned it the dealer replaced the cap and it works fine since then.

Be aware that if you refuel and you leave the cap open, after some time the car may lock itself so you should not attempt to close the cap then! First unlock the car so the pin opens and then close the cap.

Good advice Frank.

It can catch you out when filling up with fuel. If you unlock the car to open the cap but of you don't open a door, the car will lock itself again do you can't put the fuel flap back down again,

Thanks for that tip guys.
I have looked and the pin looks straight, I have also set the mechanism to lock with the cap open just to see if the thudding and squeeking noise was still there, and it was, so I'm guessing the actual locking mechanism is starting to seize up.

Looks like a visit to my dealer is on the cards :eusa-think:

Booked in for next week , service guy said they have had to replace a number of filler cap locking mechanism's on the Z. :?

Apparantly because of the where the lock sits on the rear wing it tends to catch a lot of water & rain, causing it to stick and seize up. :eusa-think:
