Just past 2nd week of ownership. First it was the coil/spark plugs. Changed those and it had been flawless for over 500+ miles.

This evening, leaving work, the engine light came on (again!). From cold start, drove for about 100m, 30 secs from start. No loss of power. No limp mode. Drove about 15 miles to home.

Plugged in the OBD. P0012 = Intake camshaft timing over-retarded (bank 1). FFS!

Looked online. My first thought was probably dirty oil (even though it was service 5000miles ago). The oil is probably either too viscous, and therefore causing issue on cold start (colder tonight at 2130 than 0715 in the morning). Oil level says ok on the onboard computer. I'll check to dipstick tomorrow. It might well be OIl Control Valve, which in the workshop manual, I believe is called variable timing electrovalve (section B1EG0125P0).

My oil drainage pan is only coming in Oct from AliExpress. Will probably need to get one sooner so I can do the oil change. Whatever it is will still be cheaper than going to a garage.

Does it sound fair? What do I look out for if it is the variable timing electrovalve? I mean I can take it out and clean it, but how does one know if it is working?

I hope this is the last of it! Any help appreciated.

Kind of...

Oil level was about 1/3 up the dipstick. Dark as expected, but there was oil.

Left it to warm up before I drove off, and it has been fine. Bought some more oil and topped it up. 1 week on, it is holding up.

I have bought 2 solenoids (there are 2 for the THP200) made by Febi Bilstein from Amazon and will send it back by the end of the month if it holds up.

My other bits will be arriving soon so I will be doing an oil change this weekend if the weather holds up.
