i just picked my mum and dad up from the airport, on the way home we seen a very bright light in the sky but moving towards us very low! (was about 700 meters away from us)
i swiftly stop the car and we all got out and stared as it looked like it was on fire, moving very quickly south, i got home in about 10 min's and people had been tweeting from darlington and then york! so my and my dad roughly worked out by the distance people were tweeting from and the time that it must be moving about 450-550 ground miles per hour!
so pretty soon if it hasn't landed yet it will be over london! unless it went right or left!

im so astonished with this because i will never see again it ever! so amazing

I saw a shooting star tonight but nothing as spectacular as that! I wonder if this was a satellite re-entering the atmosphere rather than a meteor however. Either way, a very cool thing to witness.

Just listening to reports on the local radio that it was indeed a meteor. Loads of people seem to have seen it and quite spectacular too. You were very lucky to see it Daniel.

I'm expecting a photo with it in the background from someone.

OMG I saw it it was so so close to our house.
At first I thought it was the police helicopter hovering overhead, but then realised it was breaking up and trailing, honestly this thing was so close and huge, and it seemed to just cruise passed for all to see, myself and Mrs H watched it for a good 25 seconds before it seemed to completely break up or perhaps dip over the horizon.
I cant get over how close it was, you could actually see fire and bits trailing away.
Awsome if it was a shooting star or meteor
Not so good if it was Easyjet on its way to Benidorm :wtf:

I once went to a Patric Moore lecture at Doncaster Civic theatre when I was about 6.
