LED issue!

So...I parked up today behind a black focus and noticed that my right LED sidelight was flashing on and off. A bit worrying after having driven 15 miles with it potentially flashing. So...I flicked them on and off to no avail. Flicked it to auto and still it was pulsing. Switched engine on and off and...still it was flashing. Engine off and switched back the sidelight back on..got out and checked again. This time it was fine. Left for home. Donna pulled up behind me and we flashed (lights!) and waved to one another. Nice surprise but, when stuck in traffic, the BL**DY thing was at it again.:twisted::twisted::???: Cops were directing traffic round and accident and was waiting to be pulled but, thankfully, they didn't. Probably as much due to rush hour traffic as luck. Got home. Engine on and off, got Jen out to rev the engine and they're fine again. WTF?!?!?!:evil:

Any suggestions for a solution or will I need to pull em out ya reckon. I can't be driving around at night with the bl**dy thing flashing!

Matt it sound's like the bulb is not correctly in contact with the holder mate, these can come loose, rough roads....etc "heavy bulb's" so take the bulb out, give a wee clean round the 2 pins and refit, take it from there.

Bare in mind the drls are heavier/larger"than tungsten bulbs" so they can be knocked/loosened out of their fitment easier.

Aaaaah...thank you sir! I'll give that a crack and thanks for the advice. It was rather like inserting a melon in a snooker pocket before so I'm not much looking forward to wrestling with it again but will have a crack. Will report back as to whether that resolves things or not. Cheers dude!!

Ron they are far more attractive than OEM bulb which can blow every few months, which also look vile cheap and nasty.....LOL I had no problems with any LED bulbs and so have other member's who purchased them.l would rather switch the drl mode off in the rcz than have yellow yuk tungsten bulbs on.

I would agree with this. It's either LEDs or it's off. Cheapens the whole look of the car with the yellow DRLs IMO.

.....staying yellow has it's advantages then! Flashing is one thing but 'winking' to any Tom, Dick or Harry is a different matter!!
You obviously can still see me coming up behind ya, standard bulbs or not.......

I spotted ya the moment I got to the exit of Tesco...even without LEDs. Your personalised plate looks awesome on the RCZ! Some good beading apparent on your lovely Amber too!

As for the LEDs...I love them and wouldn't want to revert to the OEM sidelight bulbs. Thats said...I do still need to get a replacement LED bulb for the right brake light that was faulty. Need to hit RCZperformance up about that for a return address.

Ok...update...got in the car and switched off sidelights. Made it 2 mins along the road and then I got a bleep and a message to say that I had a parking sensor fault. What followed next were a lot of words from my mouth that would have needed to be have been bleeped as it's pre watershed. Disabled parking sensors a few times and same message. Forgetting about that for now, spent some time removing the LEDs and cleaning the connectors but to no avail. Thankfully I was a boy scout and unearthed a spare set and then went about replacing them. Checked them before trying to manipulate them back in place. Seem fine but good lord they're a pain in the hoop to get back in! Anyway, they're in now so will see if they are ok from here on in.

Like Jassy said, its the LED's not sitting flush in the housing. I had the issue with one of mine. Using a plastic pin/tooth pic, pry the metal connectors inside the bulb housing upwards a but. By doing that they will then push the LED bulbs tighter in the housing. Mine is working perfect now.

Thanks Max but i don't think that that's the cause on this occasion. They've worked perfectly for a year and they fit and the housing perfectly. Had they shaken loose then they should have been fine once I had refitted them. I also cleaned the connectors as suggested but, on this occasion, to no avail. They're fine now that they've been replaced. That's a good solution that you've devised though and may be worth for others.

Very interesting and sorry to hear about this. I have had my 92's in for over a year with no issues whatsoever. Even with all of the bumping around due to the stiffer suspension, not one has come loose or flickered. Installation is also a breeze...say 5 mins to replace both and that includes opening the bonnet.

Thanks RCZperformance. It was totally weird. It wasn't that they flickered even, they both actually flashed/pulsed on and off in tandem as if they were set to do it. It could have been a nice party trick at a show but not so cool when driving around public roads.

I must confess that I've had a slight obsession with flashing lights since my days of building Lego emergency vehicles.:lol::lol:

Hi,

I was wondering what LEDS you use to replace DRLS and where you get them from.

I have recently purchased some but they dont work when running as DRL but only as side lights when headlights are turned to sight light or fully on.

Thanks for your help
