Iphone text alerts

My iPhone 5 only alerts me to texts and emails if I'm listening to music on it via Bluetooth. If I'm listening to the radio or cd or even if the radio is off my iPhone will not alert me to texts or emails. Anyone else have a similar problem or any solutions?

Mine gives an alert when streaming by Bluetooth but on cd or radio my iPhone 5 just gives usually message beep

When you say alerts you, how do you mean ? By displaying something on the screen in the car?

when im steaming music the phone will beep as normal when i get a text/email but not through the stereo only the phone. However when i get a call my ringtone plays through the sound system, in guessing that it doesn't do it for text/email as you shouldn't be using the phone for this while driving. :thumbup:

I think it's working as designed. Calls will always interrupt whatever source you've selected to play or even come through if the stereo is off. Essentially what happens is the stereo overrides your source and on/off setting and switches over to the phone as the source when a call comes through and reverts back to its previous state when the call ends.

Whereas all other phone sounds, be they alert sounds or music, will only come through the stereo if it's turned on and the phone is already selected as the source. There's nothing to override in this scenario, the stereo just plays whatever sound is sent via Bluetooth be it an alert or music.

And as said above, it's not like you can do anything about alerts while driving so there's no need for the stereo to switch sources just for alerts.

No I mean an audible alert to indicate you have a text message or email. I guess one should only be interested in phone call alerts as they can be operated entirely via hands free motions!
