'Interim' 12 month service??

My dealer has sent me a card advising that my car is due for an interim service ("we recommend that your peugeot has an interim service between each of its scheduled services.....") as it's 1 year old  .

As according to the manual it's first service is at 2 years or 20000 miles (I've only done about 5000) I'm not sure its necessary.

Am I just being stingy? Has anyone else had a 12 month service?

I do think Peugeot should come clean on this, they sell you on the 20,000 miles then drop the "oh by the way you might want to consider an interim" after you have brought the car.

You do really need to have an oil change even if you don't do the miles as the oil is still taking a battering due to the constant stop - start / short runs you do through 12 months, I had mine done at 7 months old with 8000 miles on the clock, the oil was not exactly clean plus you don't really know whats floating around from new anyway.

The price of an oil change is cheap, well with some dealers it is, so for piece of mind you should consider it.

Yes :text-blondmoment:

Absolutely essential that you (as a very minimum) get the oil changed each year.

Can't believe people still fall for the "It's serviced every 2 years / 20k miles" routine

Seriously though, it is worth getting your oil changed on an annual basis

Peugeot would LIKE people to have an interim service but it is not mandatory and by not having it you will not affect your warranty.

The interim is offered as a lot of people are not comfortable going for 2 years without a check over.

Regards

Marcus

Ps cant believe it been a year already!!!!

I wont bother. I am used to running cars on variable service. My Audi was not serviced until 20,000 miles which was over 2 years old. Even the 998 is on variable service.

The intermediary service is a way of getting an oil change out of you. Modern sythetics are way capable of doing 20,000 miles between changes.

depends on how you drive though. Modern oils are capable of lasting ages but they will still degrade with hard use. Mate of mine had a civic he ragged about for nealy 50k without an oil change. it drove fine, pulled well and the engine was fine.. but when I changed the oil and gave it a service.. different car.

If you use your car as a shopping trolley then by all means stick to the 20k miles. If you are an enthusiast then you can probably change the oil yourself anyway and the £30 of oil to keep a car in tip top condition every 10k is not gonna be a burden.

My parents have a 407 Coupe and I know that I certainly notice the difference when they left the car to the recomended milage before changing.

I too was told (as a surprise to me, having read the 20K blurb) that I would need to bring Freddie in around 10K or 1 year but for peace of mind I'll happily cough up the readies to keep him in prime condition

I owned a Mini Cooper about 6 years ago for a few years. That had a 20K service interval. In the total time that I owned it of about 2.5 years, I only had the one service and the car didn't suffer for it. No interim oil service, etc, nothing.
