HDI turbo

Morning all. I have a Mk2 HDI GT. Just over a year old. 5000 gentle miles on it. Last night as I was changing from 1st to 2nd I lost all power and my engine started wheezing like an asthmatic cow. I managed to limp home and inspect it. I'm no expert but I think my turbo is broken. The "wheeze" appears to be coming from the air intake. There is also a vibration coming from the same place. Question is, has this happened to anyone before or am I just an unlucky boy?

I have had the turbo replaced when I only had it a few months but that was a preventative measure by the dealer who found a very small oil leak trace coming from the turbo.
My dad had a turbo problem on his previous Mercedes E220CDI which was caused by a torn hose which is actually easy to repair. It does result in all sorts of other issues but loss of power is the first one.
Have you checked the hoses?

Not yet Mr R. So far it's the turbo that's blown. They're awaiting parts etc. fingers crossed the warranty will cover this. If not I think I might just have a tiny rant*
*throw a paddy* :-(

The warranty will have to cover that!! Can't see any way for them to argue otherwise. Fingers crossed that it's resolved quickly for you. Keep us posted.

I can't see any reason at all why it wouldn't be covered by your warranty. You've only had it about 12 months?

Hiya Ron. Sorry for late reply. Yeah she's just over a year old. 5000 miles on the clock. Not heard from robins day yet. I'm assuming no news is good news. :).

Ok. Finally I have her back. New turbo fitted under warranty. Running as good as new. Many thanks to Robins and Day Sheffield for a job well done.

New turbo is a new one on me. The hdi has proved very reliable compared to the petrols. Glad it's all sorted though :)

I was chatting with a guy a few days ago. He has had the same issue with his HDI GT. But all is well now. :)

Hi all glad that you got the turbo all dune and back up and running.
I would just like to point out that even on a short run a turbo will get very hot just spooling up once.
so with this in mind just let the engine run at tickover to cool of this is a good habit to get into.
so guys if you spool let it COOL
