HD GT in Lake District

Hi folks. Just got back from a week in the Lakes in which our RCZ was fabulous. It attracted a hell of a lot of favourable comments (No bad ones) & caused a lot of Whiplash. It was brilliant driving past pedestrians & then looking in the rear view mirror to see the heads spin round.

On a more practical note, we were very loaded up (inc a proper spare wheel) & averaged 47.2mpg, with motorway speeds of between 75-98mph...Ooops, that's a mis-print Officer  The car made mincemeat of the hills & passes, & was a sheer delight!

Had to have the Average MPG/MPH gauge reset before going, as we discovered it had stuck on 44.7mpg, but all seems to be working now!

Am absolutely thrilled with this little car, & she well deserved the detailing my wife gave her yesterday. Got rather grubby in the Lakes but now back to Wow!!!

No I don't mind you asking at all RCZ1. We stayed in Borrowdale at the Mary Mount Hotel on the shore of Derwent Water. Never stayed there before as we often stay in Patterdale-Ullswater, but very clean, comfortable Hotel with very good food!Would certainly stay there again!

Just had a quick Google at it, looks very, very nice  I've never actually stayed near Derwent Water. Done lots of walks round the area though. We stay in a lake side cottage, right on the waters edge right at the bottom of Coniston Water. Has its own boathouse and jetty and you have full use of all the owners boats, it's idyllic and so peaceful. Great wildlife too. Last time I was there spotted an otter as I stood, taking photographs, on the jetty at 5am, on the most beautifully serene misty June morning........ Oh wish I was there now :D

Crikey RCZ1, only just got back from the Lakes & your description of your lakeside cottage etc on Coniston Water, has got me reaching for my diary again! Sound surreal!!! And yes, we love walking/fell walking too-amazing walks in the Lakes!

We were in Coniston on last Wed & met one of the guys helping to rebuild Donald Campbells Bluebird. That will be an awsome event next year when they relaunch Bluebird for a one off 100mph speed down Coniston Water. We would'nt miss that for anything.

Happy holidays in your mean machine!

I didn't know about the Bluebird relaunch. That would be a sight to see. Do you know which month they are planning to do it?

Hi again RCZ1. Well there's a question we're all dieing to know the answer to! They have a very interesting website( www.bluebirdproject.com/ ) which shows everything from a virtual explanation of the disaster, to the very involved coverage of the restoration. 97% of the salvaged craft is being recycled for the rebuild!

They have their own Forum which I have just registered on, in which they are saying that the relaunch could well be THIS year, in the Spring or Autumn. Spring is a bit close for planning a few days up there, but they say when the date is announced, it will be all over the papers, so anyone wanting to go can organise accommodation up there. I'm hoping that by joining the Forum, we may find out the date as soon as it's announced!

Arrrggghhhhhh, funny you should say that Figo, coz my wife & I have a complete love affair going on with the your Highlands, & you are 100% right! In fact, we are off there again on May 7th. We drive up to Glencoe (near Fort William) twice a year & and love it. You can't beat the breath-taking scenery & we find the Highlanders extremely warm & friendly, & lunch in the Drovers Inn (Loch Lommond) on the way up, is a 'must'!

We actually got married in the Old Blacksmiths Shop in Gretna Green & spent our Honeymoon touring the Highlands, & my wife would move up there tomorrow.

This year will be Roco's (aparently that's our RCZ's name :eusa-think: ) first of many Highland trips, so a pic of our mean machine beneath Buachaille-Etive-Mor will be of top priorty!

Cheers mate

I'm going up to that neck of the woods too. In June we go to Skye. Our first visit (to Skye) but I can't wait

Skye is fabulous in any weather, but awesome in nice weather. They do boast having 300 days of rain out of 365, but so worth the visit nontheless. The road up to The Old Man Of Stor and on to the old mines is a spectacular drive! We're aiming to go for a day in May!
