Few questions before actually buying a RCZ

Hi guys

I was checking on a 1.6 THP 156cv, year 2010, 22000kms, shark grey.

Of course the look of the car is stuninng, it is also equipped with the Nav System 3D, plus the Hifi pack and the Total Leather Pack, so far so good.

I drove the car a bit at the dealer´s place, not much to say on the engine since i could drive in circles and at at 60km/h, it was more about the feeling, visibility and all that.

So now i have few doubts before pulling the trigger, surely because i´m not used to this kind of car and its characteristics (i´m actually driving a Passat and an 206cc).

I found the cockpit a bit dark, since the back glass is tinted, and also found the front glass kind of small, surely with few adjustments on the driver seat position might improve visibility but i feel like a few more centimetres bigger would have been better (not to mention a panoramic roof, that would have been excelent and made the interior feel way bigger), do u guys get used to these kind of feelings and learn to love it?

It was also difficult to find the right adjustment for the left front mirror, didn´t have a proper reference because there was no cars behind me though, but i felt like i wanted to set it a bit higher than the mirror itself allowed me to do, have to say right mirror was good, do you guys think you have good vissibility and sense of what is going on around the car when it comes to the 3 mirrors?

The car was also way bigger than i was expecting but the feeling i got once inside the car was that it was a small car,so it was kind of a weird feeling :D , big on the outside, not that big on the inside compared to what u expect seeing the car from the outside.

So as you might see i have some "feeling" doubts, does it get better? did u have these doubts and end up loving the experience? Shall i pull the trigger?

This is going to be my daily car, i will put kms on the RCZ and since it´s a pretty nice amount of money i wanna be sure i will enjoy every bit of it.

I think the dark headlining might be part of your feeling that it's dark inside maybe? You will get used to it before you know it. I find it quite spacious feeling now especially as the roof is so short and the rear window slopes so much. Looking over your shoulder when maneuvering is great for visibility.

On my test drive I had to stop and lower the drivers seat right down, otherwise I found the rear view mirror blocked too much of my forward view. I'm 5 ft 11 so not especially tall. That helped the overall feel of the cockpit enormously for me. I think having my forward view restricted made me feel slightly claustrophobic and as soon as I lowed the seat I felt quite at home.

I'm sure once you get a comfy driving position you'll be able to set the door mirrors to your liking.

The car is rather wide and I find there's plenty of elbow room (unlike the similarly sized Merc SLK I sat in last week, very cramped!)

The only niggle I can report with the driving position is getting the steering wheel positioned such that I can see the entire instrument cluster. Ideally I'd have it a bit lower but it blocks the top of the temp and fuel gauges.

Make sure you don't get rushed by the dealer and have plenty of time to get these things right for your test drive. Don't be afraid to pull over and tweak if things don't feel right.

It's a great car, unique styling and a great drive.

Hope you enjoy your test drive.

Seriously though, which would you prefer to spend your time in - an RCZ or a Passat?!

Case closed, your honour!

you can higher the seat level and adjust the mirrors accordingly. the visibility out the front is a little hampered somewhat with the rear view mirror and sat nav but i am sure in time you will get used to that!! we used to have a saying on this forum that the RCZ chooses you............... :eusa-whistle:

You will get used to the visibility...

I still find some of the ergonomics a bit strange.. Like with the seat set for anyone but the shortest you need arms like an orangutan to reach the sat nsv controls,..and the handbrake clashes with the arm rest! Minor things that you get used to.
What other car looks and drives like the rcz at this price point?

I said this about my Alfas and the same applies to the Rcz.

The grin factor outweighs everything.

Before i actually bought the RCZ i thought it was kinda dark inside too come to think of it, but when i've owned the car for a while it goes away. You don't notice it at all.

Mirrors i've never had a problem with seeing through :D

The car is wide, so you need to watch those curbes if you want to spare the alloys! Other than that it's a "spacious" car i think.

Now I have another small issue.

My garage is 2.4m wide, there is a small column on the wall and once u save it then it becomes 2.56m

Would that give me enough room to safely open the doors and actually leaving the car?

Car with mirrors closed is about 2m,and I can't really save some space from the passenger side , I will need that for the front mirror on that side.

I have to fold my wing mirrors in to get my RCZ in the garage. I am able to open the door (not fully) but enough to glide myself in and out.

I think my garage is about the same dimensions.
It's quite easy though; I prefer to park in reverse which makes it easy to use the wing mirrors to line it up exactly in the middle of the door and make sure that you are straight, then fold in mirrors and trust your parking sensors to stop before hitting the back wall!
Also I stuck a type of bumper plate with self adhesive back to the wall which also helps me in making sure that I have driven exactly far enough in the garage and prevents any damage to the door, even when I'm too close to the driver side wall.

When I just had the house I didn't fold mirrors in the procedure and I did scrape my passenger side wing mirror one time on the way out :text-blondmoment: so would definitely recommend to always fold mirrors.

Parking shouldn't be the problem, getting out of the car is :)

I will have 35cm maximum to open the door, would that good enough?

Also, even if I park with mirrors folded I will need to leave room enough for the unfolding.

Can the automatic unfolding when unlocking the car be avoided?

I will need to do it manually after I leave the garage

Yes you can turn the unfolding of the wing mirrors off from inside the car.

You have a wider gap than me to open your door then. I have a car mat fixed to the garage wall so that the door does not bang on the wall. You do have to be a bit of a contortionist but it's not a problem.

I can't get my Z in my garage, although that probably is at least in part due to the 4.2 tonnes of rubbish that I have accumulated over the years.
In fact, I couldn't get a smart car in my garage, and if I had a smart car, I would definitely want to hide it somewhere

To turn off the automatic unfolding, just use the mirror controls to fold them in manually (pull back on the left and right arrows). They will then only unfold when you pull back on the controls manually again.

It does sound a bit tight - 35cm, but as Kerry said, it is possible, and it's not like you are doing it loads of times a day. To be honest, if I had to crawl through a flaming hoop every time I parked up it would still be worth it to own an RCZ :eusa-whistle:
