Hi everyone
Has anyone ever removed an egr valve on a diesel version. Engine repair needed coming up on dash every now and again and reading the code tells me it's the egr valve. Any info would be much appreciated.

They get clogged with sooty deposits & this affects their performance which in turn can also interfere with emissions (Lambda sensors) & this will eventually trigger the Engine warning light try EGR cleaner see if will shift the gunge

On my previous diesels I've cleaned them with oven cleaner. Works perfectly fine.
Don't blame me if you kill anything though.

On my 406 Coupe 2.2 HDi I used oven cleaner to clean the EGR (before I eventually removed it) and to clean the vanes on the hot (exhaust) side of my turbo. Worked a treat 😁 👍

I asked my son on Sunday about the mot changes as he works in a large front line service workshop 🚔 & in the new test they have to check for EGR DPF tampering which constitutes a mot emissions failure ? He also stated 83.000 Diesel vehicles failed the test since the legislation was updated last year! I.m glad I got a petrol version :)

My 406 Coupe HDi never had emissions issues with the DPF removed... it flew through it's NCT (MOT) tests. Although this is more to do with what they test for in those emissions tests, don't think they test for Nox which, I believe, the DPF is there to reduce.

I 100% would not be removing the EGR and/or DPF on a car today if I was driving a diesel now as I recon the NCT tests in Ireland will become more sophisticated and start looking at EGR & DPF removal.

I too am glad I drive a petrol car now... especially as it's knocking out 41MPG over my first almost 4k miles of ownership. This is only marginally less than what I was getting with my 406 Coupe HDi 😁

If you did happen to modify your car (EGR and/or DPF) and failed on emissions due to new tests looking for 'tampering' then good luck putting it right again. You've most likely disposed of your EGR and smashed out the DPF. Both cost a good few quid to replace

I used it on my second 407 2.0 HDi and my 2.2 HDi 508.

You forgot to mention that the ECU will have to be reconfigured to the original Peugeot Programmed Data (more Costs) & also if your pulled for a roadside check & they find your over the legal NOX limits you get a Prohibition notice for 10 days & if it has seriously breached the Limit or has other faults the notice is in force from the moment its issued so you won't be able to drive it from the place you were stopped & you could face immediate prosecution o_O

I think I have the same problem, probably caused by the lack of use during Covid lockdowns etc. I have tried EGR Cleaner (sprayed via air filter) & PDF Cleaner (Diesel additive) etc & higher than normal rev’d long drives but all to no avail.

Can anybody confirm where I can locate the EGR Valve (photo?), so I can check associated plugs, pipes etc. I have read loose wiring or split pneumatic pipes cause the same issues (P0488 Code)

Thanks in advance 👍

I have been experiencing EGR related codes but stumbled on the problem with the Doser Valve actuator failure. My actuator was found to have failed & a temp (?) fix was simple with small nylon cable ties as somebody had previously mentioned, cars running great again 😀
