How bad is the smoke?

That what the DPF was for, so taking it away it normal you have black smoke 
Take it back to tuner, to correct map, your remap has too rich fuel mixture, I dont know how much is smoking,but black smoke is unburned fuel,peopke belive that without fap filter is nornal for diesel to smoke,but it is not trueu
