Dents to rear panel

Hi everyone

Has anyone experienced this before.

Only had the car for 3 months and I always wash it myself. I check it every week to make sure the missus is not parking it in tight spaces as I hate door dings down the side paneling. Took it to a recommended car wash today where they wash it by hand. I noticed the chap was left handed and as he was washing it he kept placing his right hand on the panels to take the weight as he was bending over. The car was washed and dried and to be fair, it was a good job. I got home and checked over the car and noticed that both rear panels just below the Small rear window have several large dents as if caused by the palm of his hand. The panel is pretty soft and flexible and ther was no damage prior to the car being washed. Took the car back but obviously was told that they did not do it. I will need to pay to have them removed but just wondered if anyone has noticed this before?

Cheers

Rob

If the paintwork is still ok, try a dent puller, I think they even sell them in Asda, or certainly halfords etc. it might just return the panel to its former shape. They are basically a suction cup with handles.

I haven't had anything like this, but I always wash the car myself.

You might be able to remove the rear speakers and be able to push the panel from the inside!

I think they will pop out ok but I will use the professionals. Anyway, pass the word that the rear panels are soft and easily push in and to be careful not to put any pressure on them. Just my bloody luck that I let someone else wash the car. Never again.

Just spoke to dent chappy. Can't get to the dents from under wheel arch. Need to remove the seats and panels to get to them. Looking at £200. That was the first and will be the last time I ever use a car wash. Expensive lesson to learn. :( just Mind and be careful as the panels are soft. That's the first thing I have now noticed compared to the very solid build of my previous BMW's.

TBH I can't understand how that offender can be employed by a professional car wash.
They're supposed to be careful and why do they need to lean on the car anyways? Surely they have feet to stand on?

Rear seats are relatively easy to take as they are clipped in so will not need to remove any screws etc, the seat base is clipped in at the front so you can just lift this up with some force and it will come free.

The difficulty is removing the panels as you may need to remove the rear seat belt stalk which is a nightmare to take out, in order to get the rear panel to release.

When I wired in my subwoofer to one of the rear speakers. I managed to remove the rear panel with all seats in situ. Although due to the seatbelt, it just hung outside the door until I put it back.

Cheers guys. I will have a look at it at the weekend to see if I can strip the panels myself which will save a little on the cost.

Thanks for taking the time to post your replies.

Much appreciated.

Please......
" A professional Car Washer" do you think these guys at your average Hand Wash Emporiums" have been to college to take a BTEC in car washing?

While you see guys on TV detailing cars with a potion of Canadian Moose Ear Wax or what ever and charging mega bucks to do it I don't think that's quite the case here

I wash both my Z and my Vette by hand so if there is a problem then as Zeppelin once sang "Nobody's Fault but mine"
