Dealer Rant

Due to my love of all things two wheeled and various racetracks around the country, I need to get a tow-bar fitted.
"Easy" you might say, after all Peugeot offer it as an option so you must be able to find a dealer who be happy to extort some cash from someone...

Think again! Three local dealers have been approached and have either ignored my pleas or have passed me on to their "local tow-bar fitter" as it is a specialist job - and they have subsequently ignored my request.

Witter (and the like) don't actually do a tow-bar for this model so no other third party can help me either.

A search on t'internet shows that you can actually purchase the required kit - but do you think I can get anyone to actually fit it?

Should've really looked into this a bit deeper and not rely on Peugeot/internet/websites to give me good advice...

Oh well, loving the car so far though! :)

It's certainly possible to get a towbar fitted, as at least two forum members have done so. Cue Tom for more details.

I would think you will find a local towbar fitter or even a mobile one quite easily.
They will be cheaper than a garage as they still charge the same hourly rate as they do for servicing, plus they don't fit many so a guy who does it for a living is a safer bet .

I'd be quite interested in hearing about where it was fitted as I've just heard back from Peugeot UK who tell me that the RCZ cannot tow...

Dear Mr Southam,

Thank you for your recent email regarding the fitting of a Peugeot towbar to your RCZ.

I am sorry to inform you that the RCZ is not designed for towing, we would be unable to recommend a Peugeot dealership that would be willing to fit a towbar to your vehicle.

I do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind Regards

Julia Bové

How strange. Peugoet definitely used to offer an official towbar for the RCZ, I have one that was fitted by a dealer! Unless they have changed something on the facelift?

FTR: mine is a 2011 model
Just spent another half an hour on the phone to them and they have now escalated this case to whoever is next up the chain of command...
The website offer the to-bar as you say: Click
but like I said, can I find anyone willing to supply and fit?
I'm not going to let this go until I have had a reasonable/satisfactory response! will keep you posted!

**palms face with hand and looks to the heavens** What a ridiculous and entirely inaccurate statement as has been pointed out.

Well, they came back to me having finally found a dealer willing to fit the towbar...

"£985 please sir...."

I was expecting quite a high price, but nearly a grand? Jeepers!!

This is because the dealer is fitting it so 3-4 hrs work is nearly £400 a towbar fitter will do a fixed price and a better job to be honest.

And what about the "we can't and don't fit them" statement? Incompetent morons

Tell it like it is Ron

WELL they shouldn't make statements until they are sure of their facts. I still recall an old boss saying to me at the start of my sales career, "if in doubt ask" and "there are no such things as dumb questions" he stood by that and never belittled anybody who asked for advice, simply explained and then made sure that you accepted the answer and understood it. It's a shame that his teachings aren't more widely taught
