Dashboard Lighting at night

For those, like me, who drive at night with the dashboard lit dimly:
1. When the dash lights are turned down, the clock is about twice as bright as the dash. Normal? Big Ben stands out in the gloom for me, which I find distracting. The clock is utterly pointless in the dark anyway because the hands are not luminous, therefore most of the time I can't read it. As a fix, I've thought of simply placing a disc over the clockface when driving after dark, or could I down-rate the lamp? :eusa-think:
2. Does your half-moon dash lighting 'kill' button only work on the NG4 nav-telly? Another one for the next edition upgrade, because I've driven other cars where this sort of thing turns off everything except essentials like the speedo.

I do believe that the half moon button only "kills" the sat nav screen. I have just tried to double check but in day light it is not easy to be sure.
