COOLANT OR WATER! HELP!

Hi,

I have a late 2012 model rcz, the "TOP UP COOLANT" light keeps coming up, now I am really confused as I have been reading on these boards that I should put original rcz coolant and not water, BUT this video (from where I bought the car) says I should put water:

What do I do, very confused!

I am happy to buy coolant, but where I live (countryside) we dont have that many dealers with coolants!

The car is due for servicing at end of NOV, if I add water will it damage or something!

Can't I just add water for now??? and Coolant later?

Deeply confused!

Please help!

You should check your coolant level in the expansion bottle and see if the level is actually low. RCZ's have been known to have faulty sensors. If the level is low, ideally you should use a coolant mix to top it up, but water is fine in an emergency. If you use water, you need to tell the garage when it goes in next, so they can make the coolant up to the correct mixture.

You don't need to panic, just don't drive the car if there is no coolant in it & topping up with water is better than nothing.

You can buy pre-mixed coolant from Halfords & the like, you don't need a dealership.

The main reason for coolant over water alone is to lower the freezing point so that you don't have problems in the winter. It also helps in hot weather & reduces corrosion throughout the system, also lubricating the water pump. water is just fine as an emergency measure.

If you can still see coolant in the expansion tank, there is plenty in the system to drive to the garage, even if it's not up to the correct mark. But you should get it checked to make sure there are no leaks. If the level is correct, you should get the sensor checked.

ok thank you! I will buy one from Euro car parts, I just thought I needed a special coolant, and after servicing will put the real deal in!

Thank you!
