Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find the post. What real world mpg are automatic owners getting?

Cheers

Garry

Why in Heavens name would you want an automatic RCZ. Its a drivers car so a manual is the only choice. Fuel econemy is always going to be an issue with auto's. Choose wisely next time, or spend a lifetime paying through the nose for fuel !!!!!!!!!

About the same if not better than the manual on MPG as it changes up gears when you may not.

Please remember today's automatics are NOTHING like the old ones.
What you have is a manual gearbox with an electronic selector changing the gears for you, the clutch is an electronic actuator pushing the clutch arm.
There is NO torque converter, no auto-box, no transmission fluid to pump round.

It is in effect a manual that someone else is working for you.
Can you change gear quicker in a manual? yea you maybe able to, does you left leg ache on the M25 ? Mine don't
Its swings and roundabouts, I drive BOTH, but she only does auto`s so we have auto (have done for 4 cars now, with the electronic box)

Just before someone adds comments about snow/ice, my car was only one out of our road last time it snowed (Focus Diesel Auto) LOL at manual BMW stranded.

BTW take a look at Auto-trader RCZ MPG listed as 38.6 Auto 42.1 Man so not so shabby 4mpg less (£150 over 12000 miles)

Why not answer the question next time or not bother posting. Not everyone can drive a manual.

I would like an automatic RCZ next time. Garry, do you often slip it into sport mode for extra umph?
My husband drives an automatic and when he slips it into sport mode it makes an incredible difference in acceleration and a whole lot of fun! Wondered if the RCZ automatic was the same?

No problem Garry :text-blondmoment:

You surely know there is only one way to go and that's the RCZ route. And the colour is simples -

I had a look see today, and, since I bought mine it has done (as per the car readout) 30.1 mpg over 2500 miles.

what kind of driver are you? The 'Roco is the better "drivers car" in my opinion.. harder and sharper... but up until about 9/10ths the RCZ puts a bigger smile on your face.

Cant comment on the auto's but the RCZ uses Porsches "tiptronic" system wheras the VW uses their own DSG box.

I'm not a complete driving loon, zooming around corners at stupid speeds. I want something that looks good and has a reasonable amount of poke to get me past people.

The RCZ is winning at the moment, as it is far better value. You have to pay for everything with a VW.

White is looking favourite, how often do you have to clean it? What is it like for showing scratches?

Garry, ignore bee - he has Amber Red :eusa-whistle:

Mine only gets washed once a fortnight. Saturday is the only day I get to do our cars, so one week it's mine, the next week it's the husband's. As long as it's well protected it will be fine. As with scratches, that's part of the beauty of White in that it's very difficult to see swirls and scratches, so it's a win win situation.

Just a note to paul141,

Incorrect information about automatic gearboxes.
The auto box you are quoting is generally called a semi-auto gearbox where your are right, tasks are carried out by electronic actuators, or in the case of the majority of peugeots its hydraulic actuators. You can tell if its a manual controlled box or a fully auto by the removal of the 'P' (park) on the gearshift gate on the manual controlled box.

In the case of the RCZ, this is a compact version of a full automatic box traditionally used by manufactures. So it will fit in the engine bay.

On the subject of fuel economy, auto boxes perform worse that manual boxes also the Co2 emissions rise on like for like vehicles. This is due to there lack of efficiency. Although manually controlled boxes have a higher mpg and lower Co2 emissions because they do the work for the driver at the precise moment rather than relying on the driver to know when to change gear at the most efficient time.

To sum up.

The RCZ has a normal automatic gearbox. With a 'Park' selector.
They are less efficient than manual gearboxes.

Thanks for the nice tech update. Sort of think my numbers prove the fuel differences. I would compare it to the tiptronic (but its not) same idea.

How shocked am I to find that (like me) it comes down to the VW or the Peugeot. We thought the boot on the VW was too small, the rear view too limited, and everything was extra £££.

Pesky red owners. ;) White sounds good then, with midnight silver alloys, black calipers and grille.

Pearl white is the way to go  on another note, the DSG box is lovely. It's so smooth, you don't notice that it's changed 5 gears by 35mph
Get the pug though
