Auto Wipers

Anyone else here having issues with there auto wipers? or am I getting old?
My wipers seem to have a mind of their own! first thing in the morning with a heavy dew, I switch them on and they go absolutly berseck, when one or two wipes would have done, and I have to flick the stick up to intermittent and then down to the off position to regain control. Is this normal or have I got a problem with the sensor? can you play around with the sensitivity somewhere in one of the many menus !!
Don't get me wrong I love my new RCZ, but as someone who has been driving for ..... years, I find these modern cars to reliant on technology and sometimes would prefer to have a little more manual control .
Your thoughts would be much apprerciated.

The joys of everything being controlled by computers. The auto lights don't work when it's foggy either.

Early in the morning the interior of the car will also be cold which can cause condensation inside the sensor on the inside of the windscreen making the wipers go mad.
So best to put the aircon up high and then the wipers will act normally within a few minutes.

If you want more control just take them off Auto. That way in a morning you can just flick the switch up for a quick intermittent swipe and then back off. Job done ;)

I rarely have mine on auto as I find the infrequent wiping very distracting

They do, as you say "have a mind of their own".
They are not the best Auto Wipers I have experienced .

The phrase "All Or Nothing Comes" to mind when using the wipers in auto mode.

Actually the auto wipers of my A5 were quite good, they would (almost always) settle to a decent speed and speed up when passing a truck and the spray would cover the windscreen.

I 100% agree on the heated windscreen, my ST220 had that and it was VERY useful
I'm still missing that.

I find them quite useful normally, but I have had the same problem of them sometimes going non stop in the morning.
Has anyone found a neat way to disable auto mode other than switching to intermittent and switching off again? I find that's a bit of a clunky way to stop them.

Looking forward to the reply to this one as I find it clunky too.

Auto Mode on my previous Vauxhall was far better, and on my sons present BMW it is fantastic.

I'm not convinced that the auto system is only frantic in the mornings either, I find that even if the A/C is on and theres absolutely no condensation at all, the wipers just take for ever to settle down, and even when they do, they are not matching the level of rain that is falling.

IMO having condensation on the inside should not affect how the wipers behave on the outside anyway. :eusa-think:

By the time they are close to matching the wet stuff landing on the screen, the sun is out
They are just useless on the Z, simple.

wow ! at least I now know it's not just my RCZ then, thanks for the discussion on this, I'll definetly give the suggestions a try.
I wonder in years to come, how many other functions on the evolving car will have an auto facility!! the Driver ??
I have visions of just getting into my car, shouting a few voice commands, asking the onboard computer to let me know when we have arrived, turning on the music letting the seat back and enjoying the ride !! God won't that be boring !!

Had auto wipers in last three pugs, it is annoying, when they go berserk just flip off, go on-to intermittent for a short time then auto, all will then be good.

Germans got auto wipers perfect. You can adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to suit your need. Dont know why the french havent figured this out yet.

It could be that those cars also happen to have the earlier mentioned heated windscreen.
That will get rid of any condensation in the sensor quickly so auto wipers behave as they should.
BTW the sensor can't distinguish between drops on the inside from those on the outside so I see no other solution.

Yeah...the auto wipers are rather erratic. Thank goodness for learning about G1 and G5...I no longer need to spend nearly so long correcting the wipers and their over enthusiasm!!! Makes a world of difference to the rear windscreen too..."I CAN SEE!!!"
