Hi guys, I know that I usually post a number of whimsical posts but this time I need to ask for a favour. As many of you know, I am currently taking a break away to the Lake District. Today, I received news that one of my best friends of more than 20 years (remember that I'm "only" 31) was involved in a bad accident on Sunday when he was struck by a car while out on his bike. He was rushed to hospital with severe head injuries and placed into an induced coma in intensive care. He had a relatively comfortable night last night I believe but the next few days will be critical and they are yet to ascertain the extent to his injuries.

Now, this guy is a fighter, holds a PHD, is well respected in his field of academia and is one of the sharpest minds that I have ever had the privilege to know. All that aside, he is probably the nicest guy that I know and always looks for the good in people. He has a very quick wit and is just an all round top bloke.

Unfortunately, the details are sketchy and he now lives quite some distance from me (in Bristol) and I feel somewhat helpless. His parents were off visiting his brothers in the states but have now flown back to be with him. There really is nothing that I can do and even if I made the trip to get there I know that I would not be able to see him. I am asking for you to all please send your positive thoughts to him and his family for a swift and full recovery.

C'mon mate...you CAN beat this and I am mentally in your corner!!!

The human mind and body are pretty amazing things. Our thoughts are with your friend, his family & his friends - which includes you, of course.

He is in the right place with the right people around him. In a short while you will be permitted to see him. The words you speak may very well reach him and give the encouragement he needs to know he is not alone and has people rooting for him. I wish you all well in the next few weeks.

Although there are 'rogues' in every industry, all our doctors & nurses are generally absolutely amazing people - dedicated, conscientious, patient, helpful, caring, knowledgeable - I know because I married one.

This belief should drive your positive thoughts, added to your friend's natural fighting instinct, it can only help promote a satisfactory conclusion.
All the best.

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words and good wishes. He's still in an induced coma with significant brain trauma. I haven't been able to find much more out today and still just desperately hoping that he makes it through this critical time safely. C'mon buddy!!

Aw min, this is rotten. You must feel so helpless. Sure he's a fighter! Sure you can jump on a flight as soon as you're able to visit him. Jen'll understand.

Thank you Mac and Donna. BTD, I cannot tell you how touched I am by your offer. That is SO very kind and thoughtful. Thank you.

The news still isn't great I'm afraid. He hasn't made much progress unfortunately and the doctors are saying that it'll be some time next week now before they have a clearer idea. His brother informs me that he has had one or two good nights and a couple that haven't been so good. They are closely monitoring the swelling in and around his brain and there are a few other things that they are concerned about but I'm not yet sure what they are. Getting increasingly concerned the slower he is to respond and for the swelling to go down. Still just praying that he can make it through this critical time and the sooner the better.

Thank you again everyone for your support and good wishes.

Well...after considerable uncertainty and a lot of worry, I received this news today. The human mind and body is a truly astonishing thing!!!

"Hi all, another update. He's now conscious & has been showing some great signs of improvement including enjoying our whatsapp messages! His brother's last message was that they had just been in to see and the progress he's made in the last couple of days has been amazing. He's now happily chatting away, tho it doesn't always make sense - often he doesn't know where he is and has false memories, probably from dreams or delusions due to medications. He's lost a lot of weight but there are times when he's talking that you wouldn't know there's anything much wrong with him.
Very encouraging news!"

Wow...just wow! I am obviously HUGELY relieved and want to thank you all for your thoughts, words of support and your VERY kind offer BTD!!!

...The human body is truly an amazing biological machine and far more complex than the faults that require the diagnostic machine to be plugged into our Z's.

Thanks guys!! I sent him a whatsapp voice message informing him that I thought that this was a rather extreme way of getting a lie in and just generally encouraging him to keep up the good work. It'll be good to speak with him. It's rather miraculous and he's one tough bloke!!

Apparently the hospital that he's in is a new build have done away with traditional wards and they have their own "pods" in ICU. I'm sure that he's being well looked after and will see if he's going to be coming up here to aid his recovery when he's up to it. Failing that, I may try and get down to see him in the coming weeks if he's up to it. Really great news to start the day! :D

I know your dear friend is a Biker and can only contemplate what him and his family have gone through during this time, but l am going too slightly diverge on your Thread Mate My youngest son has 3 months ago passed his Bike test,he then got a used bike but it broke down. Jordan got it repaired and sold this bike "I thought thank god he's saw the light" l am ANTI MOTORBIKE...As far as he is concerned  .

Anyhow he moved into a new house 2 months ago Yippee l thought, so as Dads do l helped out with new additional light etc, etc.Only find a brand new Ducati 696 in garage... :wtf: he knows my feelings on these things and have not spoken to him since.
In most cases its motorists that are at fault when a bike is involved in a accident...l know a lot of bikers are reckless but they always end up far,far worse off in a accident...Motorbike's
