A little story (or, why does this always happen to ME?)

So, it's late Saturday afternoon and my RCZ is freshly detailed.

And I don't mean just "detailed", I mean "Kerry alias RCZ1 was here" kinda detailed!

Shiny as a car could be, plus some...

The sun still shines, the temperatures are already cold enough to not catch too much insects, so off we go on a lovely road direction sunset.

They play ZZ-Top on the radio, this song with that hot car and all those sexy long-legged chicks...
As you can see, life is good.

...

...

What you DON'T see is the car in front of me..an old Volkswagen Golf, and judging from the hat he's wearing and the little toilet-paper-roll on the back shelf the driver is most probably old as the hills, if not even more.

He's the kind of guy who washes his car only every other year or so...lots of dirt, rust, windows almost blind from dust, one tire way to low pressure....you get the idea.

The sun is shining through the windscreen, so the old man decides to use the windscreen washer to see where he's actually driving.

Now, those windscreen washers on a Golf are a fine piece of German engineering. At one point in history those engineers figured out that the 99% use case of windscreen washers is "driving and can't see anything", so they adjusted the angle of the windscreen washer jet in a way that, together with the airstream, the water would perfectly cover the windscreen. Great guys!

What they did NOT think of is where the water goes when there's no airstream, like, when someone stops at a traffic light.

Grandpa in front of me comes to a stop at a red traffic light.

Grandpa figures that NOW is the perfect time to fire the washer.

In the absence of a proper airstream the water decides to completely avoid said windscreen, sprays over the Golf right onto my freshly detailed bonnet.

Now, as we all know, the "water" in a car consists of almost everything but water...it's water with some antifreeze mixture, made from glycerin, ethylene glycol or ethanol, or all three of them.

But, no matter what it is, it's blue.

When sprayed over a car, blue with white foam.

When sprayed over car onto a blistering hot RCZ bonnet, blue with white foam which sticks like superglue.

Why why why?

Happened already 2 times this year!

Is this a German thing? Some old nasty German habit like starting world wars or kicking the Brits out of the football championship?

I don't know...I guess I'll keep a 2-cars safety distance in the future :eusa-think:

Oh Tom, I really sympathise. Why do people do that? I don't know!

It's happened to me on a few occasions and it's SO annoying, especially when, like you, you've just washed the car. It's a real pet hate of mine :(

Don't you have the rockets fitted to your stealth mobile for dealing with people like that! Lol

To be honest, I think people driving sheds look into their rear view mirror and see a nice car and do it on purpose.

It's one thing that I hate about headlamp washers for xenon lights on your own car, at least my new RCZ doesn't have them.
