A Few Cleaning Questions.

Hi all, I'm new to the forums and I've been reading through all the posts to try and get to grips with what I need for cleaning my RCZ (Ashphalt). I think I have it sussed just a couple of questions (sorry if I've missed the answers in the previous posts!) -

1. Roof - I assume this is just black paint and a normal wax is fine (I tend to use Dodo Juice products).

2. Side bars - I assume a normal wax is ok on these as well?

3. Wheels - these are the black and silver Solstice ones. Am I ok with a normal wheel sealant? Not had coated wheels before so I'm not sure.

And tha's about it, I get a specialist cleaning kit with the car so the bodywork side is covered for now and I've seen Swissvax kits for matt paint so just need to sort that out at some point.

Cheers

Hi there welcome to the site.
ok,
1. (ROOF) I also use Dodo wax after using Autoglym Super Resin Polish, which does not "cut" the paint work, in fact I use both these products on the whole of the car.
2. (ARCHES) Again I use the above products. Be careful not to scratch the finish on the arches.
3. (WHEELS) I have the same wheels as you and I use Ironx to get rid of the small iron filings that can cause rust marks, then wash with normal car shampoo (I use MER Super Advanced) then clean and protect with Autoglym Alloy Wheel Cleaner & Protector, again this will not cut into the wheels finish and makes cleaning easier next time round as it lays on an invisible barrier from brake dust ect.
DONT PUT THAT ACID SPRAY CLEANER STUFF ON THE WHEELS

Ps. You can use the Ironx on "normal" paint work to get rid of the small iron spots that are sometimes more noticable on lighter cars, (looks like tiny red/orange dots).
I personally wouldnt put it on the arches though or your matt finish !!

Now stop talking about it, get the bucket and hose out and do yourself proud.

If ur gonna use iron x get a clothes peg for ur nose. Used it last sat boy that stuff stinks u'll be smelling it all day. Good job thou at getting those orange spots away. I just used opti seal on whole car roof arches and wheels. Don't see need for any fancy products for diff parts of car. 20 mins done whole car enjoy ur sat morn cleaning. Was the first time i washed my own car in months quite sad but it felt good, and if there's any swirls from now on I'll only have myself to blame

Be careful about using Iron x on matt paint. You would have to do some research to see if that can be used, I wouldn't like to say it can be.

You can use any sealant or wax on your arches. The roof marks very easily so a polish which has some abrasive in it will help to get rid like Gtechniq P1. If you want to fill them then SRP or other polishes are available BUT don't get it anywhere near your paintwork!

Wheels I swear by Planet Polish Wheel Seal and Shine. Each application lasts 3 months, more if you put a second layer on. It's cheap as chips and my bottle has lasted 2 years so far.

To be clear - you CANNOT polish matt paint. Hence why I say don't get ANY polish on your paintwork.

Hand polish, even if it has abrasives in it, will not do any harm. You can't generate enough pressure or rotation that a machine could for example. P1 is a good product which removes NOT fills.

Cheers for the replies - I'll be using the Swissvax products for the bodywork as they do a special range for the Matt finish. Nothing else will go near my paint work as I don't want to screw up the matt finish. Gtechniq for the windows. Looks like I can still use my dodo stuff for the roof and arches, I'm nearly out of alloy sealant anyhow and I was looking at a few different products, looks like the Planet Polish stuff.

Don't get the car till late June so plenty of time to get it all sorted...
