Coolant Loss, no heat in car - have I a head gasket or air lock issue ?

I agree with EddieJ, if there is a problem with a water pump drive then they tend to rattle which is very noisy and the temp will be high or even fluctuating as drive sometimes engages and sometimes not. just monitor levels and get a feel for the car. Enjoy you RCZ.

Was I wrong to walk away?

I have had two RCZ's a 156 and now a 200 I have not had water in the boot more than a few drops when opening the lid in rain. I did open the boot a couple of weeks ago when the window was covered in frozen snow and a large area dropped into the boot by sliding under the raised lid but lifted it...

Coolant Loss, no heat in car - have I a head gasket or air lock issue ?

I know that someone on here mentioned using Autodoc for parts hoping that helps. I remember that when I changed the thermostat on my 156 the connection to the cross pipe was stuck so I sprayed WD40 into the joint after removing the clip and left it for a couple of days as it was raining then it...

Coolant Loss, no heat in car - have I a head gasket or air lock issue ?

It does sound like the thermostat housing, they can split I have heard, I changed one on my 156 last year and they're said to be a weakness splitting at the joints although the one I had fail just went fully open enabling me to drive it until such time as it suited me to replace it. It does mean...

Coolant Loss, no heat in car - have I a head gasket or air lock issue ?

Also, you say there is steam from the exhaust but is that when the engine is cold? Water vapour is part of the exhaust gases and visible when cold so disappears as it warms up, if not then it points to a possible head gasket or water/oil heat exchanger. If you can't see a puddle under the...

Coolant Loss, no heat in car - have I a head gasket or air lock issue ?

I had a similar problem on a car I bought a month ago, you say the the coolant tank is empty so fill it to about half an inch above the max level, check that the cap is screwed down these caps can be a source of a minor leak, check the oil level using the dipstick, there is a bleed point on the...

New Owner of a THP 200 GT

Now the cross pipe has been replaced along of course with the O rings and a new water pump, the problem that was revealed was that the pipe had been sealed to the water pump with some kind of glue and I guess that it ate into the plastic, hot water flowing through the joints where the glue had...

New Owner of a THP 200 GT

I got one from GSF for my old 156 and it fitted quite easily apart from one of the heater pipes which was a little oversized on the spigot the pipe slid onto, I sorted that by cutting the hose back and fitting a pipe fitting inside, a couple of jubilee clips and it did a good job but yes...

New Owner of a THP 200 GT

Thanks for this, I had checked up on consumer rights and concur with what you have said, the trader is currently on holiday so while I had sent him a couple of emails I am waiting until he returns, had it checked and an attempt to repair but not fixed the problem with his offer to pay half I...

New Owner of a THP 200 GT

So, I took it for a decent run today and after about 25 miles or so pulled in to do a little shopping, checked the level and it had gone from the full mark to minimum, ok, possible air bubble but when pulled out of the parking space there was a small wet patch! I got home about three miles...

New Owner of a THP 200 GT

To hopefully close this off, it was the heater hoses badly fitted by someone who did the thermostat housing! New hoses have now been fitted! I took it to a garage in Derby due to it raining, cold and the warranty company said best to use them as they could deal with them direct! However the...

I have now moved over into the general discussions area with this if anyone needs to follow it.

New Owner of a THP 200

As I remember it, if you didn't fit the clip the tube is well supported and the ends being located at both ends with a bracket at some inaccessible point in it's length the clip doesn't really matter, it's easy to remove but refitting is another story! Separating the pipe from the thermostat...

New Owner of a THP 200 GT

I thought that I would move this to the main area from the Newcomers, I am now the owner of a THP 200 GT after owning a THP 156 for the past three years and even though it did have a few usually easily fixed problems I liked it so much that apart from being dubious about changing the car I...

New Owner of a THP 200

You're doing the thermostat housing and crosspipe, I did the thermostat housing on my old RCZ a couple of years ago, crosspipe O ring was a pain, I ended up spraying into the joint with WD40 as there was some grease in there which had set hard left it a couple of days and it slid out, the pipe...

New Owner of a THP 200

And then today I went for a drive to feed my son's cats about thirty miles round trip and when I returned checked the tank, the level was down, rolled the car back and there was a puddle of coolant which appears to be from the position of the water pump,( ok I know about the pipe across the rear...

Thanks for the reminder, just opened it and maybe there was some air in there as it took a few seconds to get liquid coming out.

New Owner of a THP 200

After owning a THP156 for the past three years last week I bought a THP200, drove home and very pleased with the change, I'll be getting to know it's foibles over the next few weeks, the engine bay has been cleaned better than any car I have ever had and so far as the expansion tank has been...

Radiator Cap changed level went up?

In my experience this has never been seen before... The car has been running normally ever since I change the thermostat unit a year ago, around a month ago I found that the radiator cap wouldn't unscrew until I warmed it up for a few minutes and then it would unscrew, so one to be changed at...
